tbh Japan are done for car building, the Koreans have a chance to snatch some of their mass market before the Chinese eat all the mid to low end.

I don't see any EV with that range and size for anywhere near $50k, anywhere, from any marque.

In fact, see what Mazda, Toyota, Lexus can come up with in a pure EV, and compare the prices then.

I know, that's the problem, for me.

Do you guys know if the EV6 AIR AWD is a UK import?  That's the closest thing I could find on the Kia UK website as it's not listed on the NZ website

Popped into Kia Christchurch the other day. They have a matte grey EV6 in the showroom, with the lighter interior. Earth or GT model, with the vegan leather.

Looks really nice up close, but the maintenance on the matte paintwork is too much!

Just YOLO'd the off-white AWD big battery today, haven't seen the car, but I'm sure it'll be okay.

Can't wait to pick it up.

I think we are a couple of years away. The problem could also be inflation. I also could never buy a new petrol car anymore, and guessing the petrol car prices could drop a lot as EVs increase and get very cheap. Even a Hybrid seems outdated. I was comparing the new Mazda CX5 and the Rav4 hybrid, and from reviews, apparently the rav4 hybrid uses half the amount of petrol on a trip, compared to the new CX5. That is pretty crazy, and I couldn't buy the CX5 just because it has a better driving experience (minus the lack of a touchscreen)

I think the specs on this look fine, but my biggest problem selling this to the person with the chequebook is that it is a Kia, and they don't want to drive a Kia. I can't even get them to do a test drive due to this. Similar issue with the Hyundai, even though it is a slightly better brand, but those white bezels on the twin LCD screens look terrible IMO.. They would prefer a Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Mazda one of the Japanese brands or similar.

That was a common perception 15 years ago but I thought most people had got over it. I would be just as happy with a Hyundai/Kia badge as I would be with any Japanese marque.

The days of Korean cars being second rate are long gone.

Can take a very long time. My parents would never buy another Holden after owning a Holden Camira, and I remember all the bits that literally fell off it, worst car ever. Now they couldn't buy a Holden if they wanted to, but don't think too many people are crying over the loss of the Holden brand. But they have already had a Kia rebadged as a Ford, and it wasn't the best.

Interesting to compare the $78k EV6 AWD with the $75k Mazda MX30 EV

Some people will pay a lot for a badge

I don't think they are making very many of the mazdas, and I don't think they will be selling very many of them either.

Even the Lexus UX300h at $79900 looks like far better value than the mazda, and Lexus is actually a premium brand, where Mazda isn't. IMO the mazda needs to be priced at about $50k and even then I don't think it is a good deal. I think the Lexus is quite nice, but the range isn't good for the money and they are coming out with better models and better sized.

The Tesla way of buying 😉 I hadn't even sat in a Model 3 before I got my own.

I already took delivery of it yesterday, it was in stock at Waikato Kia, my gut feeling is that nobody really wanted it because it was not eligible for a rebate, and if you waited (most probably can wait), they could just pay $6k more for an Earth model that has all the bells and whistles, which is a much better deal.

Excellent!

I hope you enjoy it. Once you get to grips with it please put a review on the “EV Test Drives” thread as it may help other GZers with their choice. I admit I would have liked longer with the vehicle to be able to assess it a bit more.

I saw the blue 'KIA EV6' GT line driving last long weekend near my place. Followed it for all of 100m until the bloke driving stopped to get pizza and had a good sneaky look whilst the guy was inside. Very tempting. I've got the dealer due to give me a call this coming week, will ask when the GT actual is due in.

Right, you have picked it up already! Good going! Mine is due for delivery in Oct2022.

The Earth compared to the GTLine model is the sweet spot IMO. Remove the rebate for a second, the Earth v GT spec is very similar, could we see more Air and Earths purchased than the GTs; maybe?

The earth is a much better deal than my Air AWD, but unfortunately I need a vehicle that I can pick up immediately, and GT-Line is outside of my budget (already stretching it for an EV purchase)

I'm sure your Earth model will be worth it the wait.

Noticed one annoying thing with the car, with our rav4 as soon as we put it to park, the e-handbrake will auto engage, not so with the EV6, and by the time you turned it off it's too late, so you'll have to either turn it back on and then engage the e-handbrake, or just take it on the chin and have the car do the park lock wobble if it's on a slope, super annoying
