Then many of them roar down the highway over the speed limit.....further maximising their waste of fuel and the generation of CO2 beyond what the legal speed limit allows.

I love catching up to them at the next lot of road works. All that extra fuel wasted......for literally nothing.

Petrol and diesel CAN'T be expensive.....or people wouldn't break the law to waste it.

Muppets on the road.....

They have their place. My 2 tonne SUV produces less CO2 than most of the old gas guzzling petrol cars on the road. It routinely has the third row of seats up transporting kids, so the CO2 per passenger moved is even lower than the gas guzzling petrol cars travelling with one passenger. And it is 4WD so it gets us up the icy road at Whakapapa safely every 2nd weekend over winter (mine achieves the round trip averaging 7.0L/100km with no fuel stops required, carrying 5 pax and equipment). And it efficiently tows the boat etc etc.

Driving an SUV doesn't make someone a muppet. Muppets are just muppets regardless.

Yes, Our SUV would be the same as our hatchback. Modern SUVs must meet the regulations and most are meeting the strict Euro standard (*cough* VW Cough maybe not) Its our aging stock of old bangers that are the issue here not SUVs

My next vehicle will be a small SUV, like the Mitsubishi ASX 2019 or Suzuki S-Cross 2019 or similar, still researching this. Why, because my hips and knees now want to STEP INTO / SLIDE INTO a car seat, not down or up into a car seat. I especially do not want to have to hold onto the entire door surround so I can leverage myself UP and OUT of the car seat, like I had to do with my previous Astra and to a certain extent my present Suzuki Aerio. Plus I require the storage space of the SUV.

The SUV's, big and small, I have driven I do feel slightly safer from the Muppets. Based on family experience though, short stature people should not drive SUV's especially if they have to look through the steering wheel.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I'm glad you raised that, I didn't want to but I find it extremely hypocritical for a user (whom I won't name) to be making evangelistic rants about CO2 and climate change in one thread, and then explaining how many times per month he/she has been flying trans-Tasman in another thread. Reminds me of the Green MPs with their record-breaking taxi and Air NZ bills.

"Animal Farm" is a very good read for anyone here who hasn't yet read it ;)

So there is actually someone that gives money to the airlines thinking it will go anywhere near fixing something other than increasing an airlines profits? I think actually planting your own trees will provide a much better result.

But still this doesn't change the fact that airlines generate a huge amount of CO2 emissions daily, look at this one quote from Air NZ (I did read another article saying they were only doing this in NZ, so the emissions were still occurring in other countries). So I still think it is a little rich to be pushing one message while encouraging such large scale emissions in another.

There is/was another one in the paddock at the next corner too. Judging by the new power pole installed nearby it had to hurt.

Lucky to clear the ditch, outcome would have been much worse otherwise.

Yes. As of Sunday the 2nd, that red Lexus is still there (minus parts that people have been stripping from it). We were surprised to see the white car also in a paddock quite close by.
