Whenever I get to that sort of merge and the car on the left that is merging into the lane is going to end up ahead of me, I slow down a bit to their speed. I suspect they thought you were going to speed up to try and get ahead, and they paniced because they didn't want to get sideswiped. It is all about timing and driving defensively, and merge like a zip.

Whenever I merge onto a motorway I accelerate so that i am going faster than the Motorway traffic... even if that means 120 km/h. That way I can easily adjust my speed to fit in any gap (assuming there is one). However it all falls down when some Muppet in front of me tries to merge at 60...

Shouldn't be a problem for three or four firemen to tip it on its' side to gain access to the hydrant.... and leave it like that when they have finished. Then the message might get through.

Health & Safety rules these days probably prevent them doing anything physical!

The CCC don't even paint the legally required circles unless there are multiple complaints!

They save paint / costs!

They wouldn't put parking space "hockey sticks" around it as: "Everyone would want them"!!!!

I find myself ringing the Wellington City Council on a regular basis to report nuisance vehicles - usually they on broken yellow lines, blocking the footpath, or blocking my driveway. To be fair they are very responsive, but I wish they would just do a regular patrol in the suburbs every now and again as a deterrent.

We had the council remove the disabled parking from outside of our house and put in a few extra parks (which was a welcome addition!) however didn't stop muppets from parking in front of our driveway just because there were no yellow lines there.

I contacted WCC and they came out that day and added yellow lines - also gave the lovely person who parked in-front of our driveway a ticket. Normally, logic should tell people not to park in front of driveways so feel this ticket was justified.

Actually incredibly impressed with the WCC resolving this so quickly. Since then, no more people parking in front of our driveway.

Most of the main street of Mosgiel has been closed since late Jan/early Feb, to traffic heading to Dunedin with the detour down Church Street to Park St

Since Wednesday the detour has changed because the exit at Park St was closed to reseal; as a result, three very large ROAD CLOSED signs were put up; one just before the intersection required to turn down the new detour, one at the intersection and one halfway down the road before Church St turns into Park St - this one blocks half the road leaving a small gap for residents (thats me) to get past

All weekend long I watched cars come all the way to the road closed sign that blocks the road, go around the sign and continue into Park St .. then do a U turn, and return from where they just come.

How stupid are all these drivers ...

People braking to merge are a special kind of eejit.

I encounter this regularly, as I frequent Auckland's many motorways often, having two young teens who need ferrying around all over the place. Why do people feel the need to slow down to get on the motorway?

And what is up with people driving in 70 or 80 km/h zones at 50? Do they not understand how to read road signs?

I actually think Auckland has too many on/off ramps and many are too short. Yes in theory you should be merging at 100kmh, but on some you do need to accelerate briskly to get there. Plus there are few on ramps that you have to compete with people getting ready for the off ramp.
