I actually think Auckland has too many on/off ramps and many are too short. Yes in theory you should be merging at 100kmh, but on some you do need to accelerate briskly to get there. Plus there are few on ramps that you have to compete with people getting ready for the off ramp.

My wimpy i20 is regularly held back by fellow motorists who refuse to accelerate down the on ramps. If I can do it with 1,396cc, they should be able to too. Many have much more power at their disposal than I do.

EDIT: I can hit 100k on most on ramps just fine... manual though.

I couldn't believe what I saw this weekend. Traffic up and down Kapiti turning people into complete idiots.

Traffic was nose to tail for miles this weekend on both days. The Peka Peka passing lane going North saw it's entire length as single lane with every other idiot blocking the actual passing lane to stop people from "pushing in".

I'm coming in the other direction at just under 100kph when a woman goes around one of the muppets, crossing the double yellow center line right in front of me !

At least I know the ABS works but I can think of safer ways to test it.

Then coming back into Otaki across the bridge I have two motorcyclists behind me beeping and telling me to get out of their way. My dad was a motorcyclist and I'm well versed in moving over. But it's a narrow bridge, the traffic was moving, they would only have got in front of me because the ute in front was massive. Not to mention a truck the size of a train coming in the other direction.

What did those two idiots hope to achieve in getting ahead of me ? It may have saved them 5-10 seconds in crossing the bridge at most, but you would have thought I had eaten their firsdt born children the abuse they were dishing out.

I love living on the coast but when the traffic is bad I can't believe what people turn in to and it's just easier to stay at home.

If you cant get to 100km/h on any of the onramps your vehicle is defective and should not be on the motorway. The small one at the foot of the harbour bridge going north is the worst for it IME, people trundle up the left slowly refusing to move over and end up having to slow down inorder to not hit the side of the bridge. If they pulled in where they should have then there would be no issue.

Do you think so? Your camera is indicating ~90km/h, I don't think that Nissan?? was doing 50km/h faster than you.

He came up very quickly behind me and was gone. Was an estimation based on my speed at the time and the time it took him to pass me. Netherless, was in a rush for something...

And, I don't get why all traffic lights don't have red light cameras already. Surely someone has invented a 4g connected AI camera that does auto plate recognition and can issue infringements automatically (could be checked manually before sending to weed out errors) . Be it for red light running, or no reg/wof etc.

Many people just ignore any rule that they don't like. Whether it's using their phone, speeding, unrestrained children, failing to indicate, illegal parking...you name it.

A lot of people don't understand that part of living in a functional democratic society means that sometimes you have to obey rules that you don't agree with, and it's an attitude that's becoming more prevalent.

Was just cut off 15 mins ago by a Gold Band Taxi FAILING to Give Way at a marked Give Way, to the point of me having to Emergency brake.

Tooted at him, and he gives me "The Finger"!!!

Ring their office, ask for the manager, and get the run-around to finally leave a VOICEMAIL.

Which they will NEVER respond to! (Past experience!)

If these are so called "Professional Drivers" no wonder there are so many Muppets on the roads!

If the Christchurch terrorist could live stream via a GoPro WiFi enabled camera, how about they mount those on each traffic light linked in to a central data base for plate recognition and infringement issuance.

I mean the clarity and quality of the GoPro Hero 7 images these days is phenomenal you could properly use them to pick up someone using their iDevice, or shaving or plucking their eyebrows or the passenger having their head in the drivers lap-if that's not a distraction then I don't what is 😊 (no joke have seen all of those) whilst driving through traffic lights let alone reg/wof.

NSW has done away with reg/wof stickers and everything is solely on numberplate recognition. All cop cars have numberplate recognition cameras with instant central data base feed back. Why NZ does not buy into this technology is joke especially if they are serious about reducing the road toll as our pollie's have been saying for years.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Towing a car on a trailer over the Remutaka Hill multiple times over the weekend. On most of the trips, catching up to and passing cars on the hill that didn't seem to be able to manage more than 30kmh at best.

If you are unable to drive the hill faster than a Ranger towing 2 ton of trailer and load, then maybe you need to improve your driving ability, or hand in your licence. Even more so if you deem it unnecessary to use the slow vehicle bays or shoulders where they are wide enough to move out of the way.

It's hard enough to maintain any form of speed while towing on the hills without being actively blocked by muppets with what appears to be a total lack of awareness of their surroundings.

I think the roads would be a lot safer if the road code was actually enforced.

You can drive in any manner you please in AKL provided you don't speed (at camera locations) and provided you don't run red lights (at camera locations). Everywhere else is a free-for-all and the wild wild west.
