Geektastic: Interesting snippet.

We have a Volvo XC70, formerly a press car used by Volvo when the Ocean Race took place here.

About a year ago we were offered $15,000 for it by the dealer. This week they offered us $9,000 more than that!

I assume the dealer would want to buy it and sell on? Interesting they are after such old stock.

Apparently that model is relatively rare and they are often asked for it.

The Clean Car Discount announced today is going at fuel to the fire with regards to demand for higher emitting vehicles.

If you want a new ranger, need to get it registered before 1 Jan 2022, or you will face an additional $2,780 fee... Similar numbers will apply to most larger Utes, Vans & 4x4's...

The EV rebate kicks in now, so suddenly that base Tesla model 3, Mini electric or MG ZS EV looks a lot more $8200 more attractive.

Conversely if you have a Rav4 hybrid on order, pushing that order back so the car is registered in 2022 will get you a $2340 rebate. Might free up some delivery slots this year as wait times are currently in excess of 6 months.

As I have pointed out previously in this thread, the cost of a new RAV4 hybrid has gone up $6000 in the last 2 years. If that continues, waiting until next year to get the rebate will be a break even proposition.

Might be time to pull the trigger on that 5.0 litre Mustang before the $5000 cost increase.

I thought the rebate is only for electrics and PHEVs? I thought the Rav4 is only a Hybrid?

For 2021 its only for things with plugs, but in Jan 2022 when the "fee" is applied to high emitters ( Utes etc), low emitters (regular hybrids etc) also gain a (lesser) rebate...

Oh that's great to hear - looks like we'll hold out buying a new RAV4 until 2022 then.

Also saw the new taxes imposed on higher emission cars, this means that a brand new CX9 might cost about $1230 more. Hopefully this will lower the depreciation on these vehicles a bit!

Note that the wait time for the Rav4 hybrid exceeds 6 months, so if you ordered today, your registration & Delivery will be 2022 anyway. (Date of first registration needs to be after 1 Jan 2022 to qualify).

As others have mentioned, Due to shortage, the price of many Toyota models is going up. If you are ready to move quickly, might be a good idea to do so, so you don't have to pay any further price increases.

Not clear if the rebate / fee in 2022 will be built into vehicle prices, or paid / claimed seperatly as per the Plug in program this year.

Ordered the new Highlander Hybrid Ltd end of June, was told delivery would be around October, then decided to upgrade the order to the top spec'd ZR trim, with ETA Jan 2022.

Now Toyota is advising a delay in ETA, which will now be March 2022.

Wow. And that is a model that doesn't flag a delay on Toyota NZ's website...

I was about to say that March 2022 would qualify for a Hybrid rebate. Is it <$80000?

You used to be able to get a good discount off rav4 s. I got 20% off the rrp at a field days special.

$75k

If the feebate scheme became law in Jan 2022, then the rebate would only be about $1300 according to the clean car calculator:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/clean-car-calculator-how-much-of-an-ev-feebate-youll-receive-how-much-youll-pay-for-petrol-vehicles/LQ55OI6SEYG6MX722RSL3TJWJI/

Although the co2/km figure quoted in the calculator for the Highlander Hybrid is 142g/km is incorrect, it should be 128g/km, though not sure how much difference this would make to the rebate amount.

Also just saw yesterday Mitsubishi NZ making online order available for the new generation Outlander, for delivery at end of 2021.

I quite like the look of the new Outlander also with some specs better than the Highlander such as:

  • Wireless charging
  • Wireless Apple Car play - though I have S20U so not necessarily a plus for me
  • Bose speakers vs JBL on Highlander
  • 12.3" Digital Driver display vs 7" on Highlander

Unfortunately the wife is not having any bar of it since it is not hybrid, only petrol.
