Yeah, no body speeds in the Waterview tunnels due to the averaging cameras.

Except if you are this muppet:

Finally got a good photo of him today at the Maioro St off-ramp (heading south). I have seen him on a number of occasions speeding through through the Waterview tunnel, changing lanes (w/out indicating of course), revving his engine with the intent to threaten the slower driver in front, and generally being a dick.

No wonder why - as you can see from his plate, he has scrubbed off the colour of the first letter (B) so that speeding tickets won't find him. Full rego = B3SLG

2009 Harley Davidson. Of course.

Nah, the Waterview cameras are working. People have been fined and then moaned to the Herald after being caught by those cameras.

I can't even begin to describe what I saw yesterday at the bottom of the Paekok Hill in Wellington.

A second either way would have seen multiple fatalities all because of one idiot in a Goodman's van full of workers couldn't wait for a motorcycle who was being cautious about joining the oncoming traffic (and rightly so)

Just lunacy.

Are the standard spot cameras just the ones outside, at the entrances and exit (heading to city) ?

I drove to the airport this morning in Auckland traffic which was fairly painful (Whangaparaoa to the Airport). For my six am work flights it takes 45 minutes, today 90 minutes. But that's ok, I'm on holiday. What was weird is that I got flashed and tooted from behind in standstill traffic, as the guy behind me appeared annoyed that I was letting the odd car in front of me. I was in the right lane in stand still traffic. Being from the South Island I tend to leave larger gaps than average, so I'm used to cars pulling in.

Not to mention my car is brand new and I don't want anyone rear ending or nipping the front!!

Carjam confirms what you say. B3SLG is a 09 Harley, 3SLG doesn't exist.

I wonder if LTSA or police would be interested in that information? It would be a good litmus test on my theory that deteriorating driving is due to a lack of general road code enforcement.

The only consolation is that unlike careless car/SUV drivers, when this motorcycle rider inevitably crashes he is more likely to kill himself than his victims.

Some unawares grandma is going to hit the brakes when he startles her, and he won't be having the last laugh.

I’d also think any experi3nced enforcement official would be able to work out the likely rego from the picture they take, after all there are only a few possibilities...but as you say a general lack of code enforcement is the reason...and no amount of speed enforcement will make up for that.

yes, one at the entry and exit heading north, and one at the entry heading south, the one on the exit was removed about 5 months prior to them adding the variable speed zone on the north and south western motorways

I don't agree with your theory...in the USA, there is very little in the way of enforcement (almost no automatic speed cameras, little use of radar or laser guns, acceptance of speeds 5-10mph over the limit, less cops on the road) yet driving standards are higher. Yes, there are lots of other variables.

Maybe you're just on the slippery slope to becoming a curmudgeon. lol

I suspect that enforcement levels are a knee-jerk response to driving standards... the worse the driving is, the more enforcement is piled on to try to push the standard up. At some point, it becomes cheaper and easier to do the training up front. e.g. the USA where "Driver Ed" is a normal part of high school. It baffles me why something that will be useful to virtually every Kiwi isn't taught at school.

What is it with cyclists/pedestrians walking along main roads and when they come to a side street they just continue on like the footpath is still there, without looking to see if traffic is turning into the street!   It is not like my ford territory has a tiny little quiet engine!

Well they are quite different, you need to avoid the cyclist as you would any other road vehicle - inc if you are overtaking and turning, you need to make sure you arent cutting them off. They are entitled to go straight on past a side road without giving way to anyone, just as a car is.

Peds are quite different, they need to look and give way to traffic.

Cyclist walking are peds and need to give way obviously šŸ‘šŸ»
