MarkH67:

Just saw a link to this http://oemaudio.co.nz/Product-Detail.aspx?ComId=cb13dca9-153d-44c1-837d-72bbd9168930 on facebook, for the Gen 2 X & G Leafs.

.... RUKI: This would be easy enough for me to change over myself?  I'm pretty sure you have mentioned here that it is pretty much plug'n'play.

GizTec: Appreciate your knowledge. Right now seriously do not have dumps. My apology if I upset you with my questions. I may ask dealers as they throw away sometimes AV units without SD cards when replacing with aftermarket ones. Need to know your model. If the one on my photo looks like yours - and you keen to un-solder, read and utilize dump from that one - happy to help. To clarify I currently do not have any plans in offering Leaf AV Jap to Eng conversions and I have no affiliation or partnership agreements of any kind with xanavi. Hence not competing with efforts of others in that area.

To: MarkH67: it is plug & play. Note that AV units have different versions (e.g, Bose, quad CAM, different firmware.)

Today, after Paul from OEM Audio started selling "factory" units in FB NZ EV Group for $699NZD I asked him 3 simple questions, but he immediately banned me :-) so I did not get the answers :-(

I am not his competitor, I do not sell AV units, my friends who drive Leafs were asking me about AV units and I need to know who sells what to give them informed answer...

On assumption that you can not buy Leaf AV units "from Nissan factory" I asked Paul from OEM Audio if those were:

1) from wreck, 2) from warranty shop (as there were few in the past on eBay with different faults) 3) re-manufactured (e.g. xanavi method) and what warranty comes with those?

I think those are valid questions in black & white. If you test every unit you sell, even if they from wreck or re-manufactured, refurbished or re-imaged and warranty is provided - that info could be shared ... any reason why not?

No not upset - I was confused by moderators reception but we push on...

I think any decent(affordable) option would be good at this stage.. Paying 10% of the vehicles cost for a stereo doesn't sit right with me either :)

For them to be able to source and charge only $699 (comparing to their other solution mark ups) - Its going to be at least one of the 3 options which would explain the block..

I did hear in the pipeline they are pushing for a solution with Chinese developers, not sure what it entails though.

It must be easy to do or he wouldn't be worried about sharing information.

If anyone can get me the Japanese NOR flash dump then I will give them the Leaf Dash translation files...

How about using the one I recently dismantled and show people that it is doable but not simple, requires precision, special knowledge, experience, sharp eye, laboursome and is costly... We can make video if you want just for the fun of it ...

I thought he was very rude... I don't see how anyone would want to buy anything from him with the way he responded... I also took screenshots before the comments were removed

He stipulated "none of the above".

In the past I was buying video cameras when lived overseas from the seller who advised that the price was low because of them being re-furbished from warranty shops. Those were working well and I was happy.

Some people are good at some things and people skills aren't always in the mix. :-)

I just asked xanavi a minute ago - if devices landed in ChCh are of his mods. He did not say, "NO", he said, in direct translation "everything possible".

Person associated with the seller from ChCh suggested that it is "limited amount from factory, destined for USA/Canada" market, but photo on OEM Audio site clearly shows European 0.1 FM step which is not USA step.

A separate question, but with the fact that the EV population is doubling annually (and expected to do so from now on) and also that LEAF's make up more than half the light fleet... most Fast chargers seem to be fitted with Chademo ports AND Type2 "Menekes" and seem to be able to run both at the same time...?

As most EVs here seem to use the Chademo cable... and (in AKL anyway) the incidence of queueing is growing... how viable/available are Type2>Chademo cables, so that i can use an "adapter" of some sort to utilise the Type 2 to charge my Leaf when the Chademo is in use?

My understanding is that the fast chargers directly provide DC power to the batteries. And the car tells the charger how much current it should provide. This would mean that only 1 car at a time could use each charger, as if 2 cars were connected, the charger wouldn't be able to control how much power goes to each car.

Remembering where all the screws go back to is the most painful part, making a video to play in reverse would be good :)

Does anyone have an extension cord they recommend for using from wall plug to evse? We got the new Nissan 2015 x Leaf and the cord doesn't reach all the way to the plug in the garage :(

I've read something about we should use a 10 gauge cord but I don't know where to find that.

You could try something like this: https://www.bunnings.co.nz/hpm-extesion-lead-10m_p00248205

Better 1.5mm than 1.0mm considering that EV charging can involve 10A current flow for several hours.  The recommendation is not to use any extension cord but if you are going to use one then it is best that you go with one that will suffer minimal heating - you don't want your extension cord to melt.

If you're using a 10A cable surely it'd be alright (most EV chargers seem limited to 8A).  Can't be any different to running a heater on an extension lead?

It's currently on a 10amp heavy duty 30m cord (the one for the mower)
