The point I was trying to make (but didn't do very well) is that there are so many instances where the temporary speed limit isn't justified, that drivers get frustrated and complacent, start ignoring them thus increasing the risk at locations where the speed reduction is necessary and warranted.

Same could be said for reduced speed zones, eg the 80kph zone in the video earlier where the Audi driver felt open road entitled.

If that was indeed an 80kph zone I can understand why the Audi eventually got impatient and overtook at the first opportunity. The driver in that video was doing 65kph. I'm always suspicious of dashcam footage that has been edited from the standard 1 minute increments.

Granted, but that piece of road does seem to confuse many as to whether it's 60 or 100. Along with the North-Western Motorway.

My, and I expect many others', reason is that there are so many supposed 'roadworks' on NZ highways that consist of rows of cones on the berm but without any actual work going on and no other circumstantial or physical changes to justify the speed limit reduction.

Its just to difficult for them to take km upon km of cones down when they are not working. though there are some places where they haven't actually worked in a while.

at the time you drove through maybe, but the 2 times i have driven through i and a few others have kept the the speed limit.

That was me. I had just left a round about that was in a 60km/h zone and the posted speed limit was lifted to 80km/h just before the video started so I was still accelerating. There was no impatient about it. He flew through the round about behind me at over 80km/h and continued on accelerating.

That was me. I had just left a round about that was in a 60km/h zone and the posted speed limit was lifted to 80km/h just before the video started so I was still accelerating. There was no impatient about it. He flew through the round about behind me at over 80km/h and continued on accelerating.

has the speed limit changed since the google street view was taken in May 2019? NW Motorway entrance to the roundabout is 80Km/h. November 2018 google street view shows Brigham Creek Road entrance to the roundabout is 80Km/h.

Looking at WAZE live map they all seem to be 80Km/h too.

Maybe you need to check the signs next time you drive the road? or do you have more of the video showing the 60Km/h signage?

There is a sign at the northern end on the southbound side saying completion early 2019. Finally the completion date was flagged as the middle of November 2019. That date came and went, still not finished. Then at last, it opened a day or two before the Christmas close down, BUT 70 kph going north (the same speed as when there was only one lane being used and cones switching drivers between either lane) and 100 kph going south with no obvious difference between the north and south bound lanes to justify the 70 kph north bound.

It's now early 2020 and, apparently because there is still a 70 kph limit, it's still not finished properly. The job has dragged on, and on, and on.

It's no wonder drivers are ignoring the 70 kph limit.

You’re correct. The speed limit is 80 through there, that’s my error. However the fact that I’d just come off a round about is still true. If you had turned the google street view link 180* you’ll see the exit of the round about is about 200m back from where the video starts.

After coming off the round about I could see him in my mirror approaching at speed and paused my acceleration due to the oncoming traffic. You do understand defensive driving? You know, spotting danger and driving accordingly.

I noticed the same thing coming back from Hamilton on the 1st. I even said to my wife that I couldn't understand why the 70k limit and all the road cones when the road seemed finished - it was painted, sealed and the wire medians were all in place. Suffice to say, I didn't notice anyone doing 70 or under, traffic was flowing freely at about 90.

it still has a second layer of seal to go on it.

i believe the current layer of seal is designed to allow water to run off to the edge of the road, and the new yet to be laid layer of seal is provides more grip, and is more porous which allows the water to soak into it and down to the bottom layer where it can then run off the to the outside of the road reducing standing water.

With just the bottom layer there if it rains there will likely be a lot of standing water and pose a safety hazard.

BBC News - Arizona man dresses up skeleton to drive in HOV lane

A driver in the US has been caught trying to disguise a fake skeleton as a passenger so he could use a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the 62-year-old was pulled over when an official noticed the skeleton, which was wearing a hat and tied to the passenger seat with yellow rope.

The driver was given a penalty ticket.

In a post on Twitter, it warned others against trying the same tactics.

"Think you can use the HOV lane with Skeletor riding shotgun? You're dead wrong!" it wrote, referring to the fictional nemesis of He-Man in the Masters of the Universe series. ..

I will confess to being guilty of this on a lot of occasions.

My, and I expect many others', reason is that there are so many supposed 'roadworks' on NZ highways that consist of rows of cones on the berm but without any actual work going on and no other circumstantial or physical changes to justify the speed limit reduction.

I am surprised that they do not simply take a leaf out of the European road playbook and use mobile GATSO cameras on trailers....!

This exact same thing happen to us from BoP between Rotorua and Taupo last weekend. Then on return home via Cambridge from Taupo to BoP, we had an idiot who travelled at 70km/h till every passing lanes where he speed up to 95-100km/h and then slowed down after lane merge. 😡🤬🤯

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
