Saw a great one yesterday.
Bloke driving past Porirua getting on the motorway. Right arm out the window (Peter Brock style) holding his mobile as he talked on it with his left hand holding the joint he was smoking. Nearly rear ended the car in front on several occasions.
Ge0rge:
Pretty sure the law says you've got 48 hours to notify them.
24 hours to report if there is an injury, otherwise you don't have to unless you can't find the owner of whatever you damaged.

It's only illegal if you get caught and there's about a 0.05% chance of that, so it's all good. Just don't speed!

Whoa, were they OK?

It could be a medical emergency. Or could be an exploding tyre. Or just someone slept on the wheel.

Bung: Recovered well, looked like 2 lamp standards narrowly missed.
One missed, the second quite well thumped - around the rear of the drivers side passenger door.

I've seen this twice before -- in both cases, driver fell asleep.
Both drivers were lucky to live -- car in front of us drove off the road over the edge of a cliff -- stopped, expecting the worst, lucky for her, some bushes caught her car. Second time, driver woke , corrected, got back onto the road just before almost hitting a culvert at open road speeds.
But in this case, who knows.

...Did you happen to get the number plate?
Yes we did. Mrs Floyd has reported to the police.
Update.
Wifey got a phonecall from Dave the policeman. He has spoken to the truck-driver. Truck-driver admitted it, is rather embarrassed that it's on Youtube and said something about not being able to stop in time with a full load. Dave's boss now has to decide whether they will prosecute.
They haven't done anything about the ute driver yet. Wanted to confirm with us first that we definitely have the correct rego number, which we do.
Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.
Bung: That's shooting yourself in the foot admitting that you were basically travelling too fast all the time.
Re my earlier suggestion that the traffic lights shouldn't be in a 100km/hr zone, apparently heavy vehicle drivers have been shown to be reluctant to stop once they get above 70. They will chance it more often.
they just dont want to take the time to get back up to speed again

Legal speed for trucks is 90km/hr. Those traffic lights seem to have a time difference of 6 or 7 sec between yellow and red. So if my maths is approximately correct (based on google research) and if the truckie is travelling at 90km/hr then he/she needs approx 156 mtrs to stop in 5 seconds (roughly 3 times the distance of a car). Even allowing for reaction time of a second then the truckie should have been able to stop in time for the red light.
Please don't flame me for bad maths. I know there are a heap of formulas involved and we don't know the weight of the truck. The road conditions appear dry. 😀
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.
Keep calm, and carry on posting.
