I had to pop into PB for a warranty-related repair a week or so ago and their initial thinking was to tell me that if my warranty claim was rejected they would tell me how much it would cost before repairing...I'd already explained what the issue was and it was clear that it was a manufacturing defect (the charge unit had come out of the scooter body with the cable).

I mentioned that this was a Warranty issue and they said they would determine what was and wasn't accepted. In the end it was an easy fix and was done there and then, but it led me to be more than a little concerned if I had a REAL problem with my scooter...

Consumers shouldn't be having to turn to overseas sites to order parts for a product sold by a main-street retailer in NZ.

It's not typical for any retailer to be selling replacement parts, repair or replace your product sure but not sell you parts especally as unauthorized repair tends to void warrantys, mines certainly void with the mods i've made like the aftermarket battery cover.

wallymal: Hi,

The nut that screws on to the end of the bolt on folding mechanism has fallen off - any idea where in NZ I source spare parts from? Tried the Xiaomi store in Sylvia park but they had no idea.

So update on this - took it back to PB Tech and they honoured it as a warranty repair relatively hassle free. After leaving it there overnight I reckon just took a part from a damaged return stock.

In parallel, the Xiaomi store did contact me to see if they could source a spare nut for me, so overall not a bad experience trying to get this issue fixed. Would be way easier if spare parts are readily available though

Newbie here

Don't laugh, are scooters hard to ride? And are they comfy to ride?

I work from home, my cool motorbike hardly gets used, dont want a second car, Im thinking of selling the bike and replacing it with a Scooter such as the 365 and a bus card. Handier for quick bits around here that I used the bike for if the car isnt around, but more convenient as less parking fuss and less hassle getting gear on. There are 3 buses here, two are a 15 minute walk, enter the scooter. The bike costs me north of $1000 per year to take up space in the garage. The only downside is selling the cool factor. If I needed to commute in the future, scooter and bus, or maybe just scooter

Check back in the Lime scooter thread, as we have had this conversation already, and that was in direct response to you saying they were tricky to learn to ride!

Short answer: no.

In terms of comfort: those models with suspension and/or pneumatic tyres are far more comfortable. As an example, using a Lime scooter for a long distance would be pretty bone-crushing.

Cheers will do, and will read all this thread too for any tidbits

If you haven't already, also read the Zero scooter thread, as a number of people have been encouraged to get one of these after another member purchased one to replace a Mi. https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=162&topicid=245371

There are also other options for scooters that are fairly light but are better built than the Mis (my biggest issue with them), if you're after something fairly portable. Some of these options are discussed in these threads.

Tks for that, I just found my posts too, I'll read all the eScooter threads here. Bigger ones, smaller ones, ones with nice rubber wheels, ones while seemingly really low profile wheels, and suspension, never thought of that. The manual scooters all seemed to be fairly standard, but the eScooters there is so much out there now and variability. The Mi looked ideal but the flex issue and some other issues is a pity. Light would be good if I took it where i also needed to carry it, such as into town or Bunnings type shopping if the car wasn't around, and added that to a bus trip

Thanks again

My opinion (based on my experience) is that you get what you pay for.

More money usually gives you more power, more comfort, more speed and arguably better build quality.

That's a good opinion Rob. What happens if you have greater than 300W unit, can you get pinged as if it was a moped?

If it was eScooter legal at 300W but better build and more range, don't need more speed, that would work

I don't believe that the laws have kept up with the new technology.

There are still unanswered questions about what will happen if some models are outlawed in the future.

I have to say that there's a whole lot of the XiaoMi scooters around Chch now!

I'm down on holiday and the place is certainly Lime central! The XiaoMi's fly past them though...

I find my m365 is similar in performance to lime, i have customized firmware to main advantage is in the air filled wheels it rides a lot better than the solid ones.

Ran into an issue on the way home this morning, when i started my trip with a fully charged battery pretty much straight onto a downhill, the regen braking stopped working which i think is overcharge protection disc brake isn't set super strong on mine wasn't enough to stop me on a steep downhill so i had to use my foot to stop intime, regen braking didn't start working again till i ran the battery down a few % and it wasn't accelerating smoothly untill then, think it was overcharge protection or something.

I found with my M365 the disc brake cable needed adjusting at fairly regular intervals as it would become increasingly ineffectual over a period of about three weeks, so perhaps even adjusting that more frequently will help in such a situation should it happen again. (I started keeping three different size allen keys in my pack for adjusting the scooter - usually it was either the handlebars or brake that needed it.)

Can I ask which PBTech store you took the scooter in to? I have an issue with mine not charging but while I bought it from PBTech I am not sure which PBTech store to take it to
