amiga500: The market is being distorted by sanctions & political posturing.

Or perhaps the market is distorted by oligopoly, and forced back to position periodically by political investigation.

In NZ oil companies increase prices every time the government threatens to investigate. They did it last year. A pricing F U to the government. We're too small. They don't care. Another reason I bought an electric car. Now it's me who doesn't care.

I believe I saw the opposite. Price s creeping up steadily, followed by a Govt investigation being announced, and prices then beginning to fall. Once the investigation is over, the cycle begins again.

What is happening in Rotorua?
How far is it from the nearest port that handles fuel?

Dunedin gets an unmanned NPD tomorrow - be interesting to see what the price is as the unmanned McKeowns that opened didn't provided the savings for 91 as expect (though I hear diesel is very cheap)

And I am sure the national price went down to $2.249 on Wednesday morning and then back up to $2.269 in the evening (down 2c, up 2c)

Of the two petrol stations I pass each morning, one is $2.249, the other is $2.269 - normally they are always both the same price (aka, the national price)

Anyone in Dunedin know if NPD actually opened today?

There is a new Waitomo station opening in Upper Hutt tomorrow (14/5) and they have announced their opening special of $1.89.9 for 91, $2.02.9 for 95 and $1.19.9 for Diesel.

Hopefully this drags down pricing around the whole Hutt Valley, once they open in Thorndon it'll make more of a dent but still relief from the price going up.

Lack of parity from 1 side of chc to the other at present.

Some stayed on 2.49, some went up to 2.26 again. And as of this AM, Z (and some others) have followed back up another 2 to 2.28

Yeah, but Waitomo are just buying fuel wholesale from Mobil and trimming the retail margin as they run low cost self service sites (no canopy etc).

The majors control of the Wellington Terminal mean anyone who wants to source independently needs to use overland transport (which limits volumes hugely)

There is a small challenge station in Johnsonville that unfortunately will be closing, and rumour has it that this site will be a Waitomo too

Gaspy updated with the price of NPD at the new Dunedin (Green Island) self service - 12c a litre cheaper than the national price (as of Saturday) - $2.129 for 91

Z Green Island dropped their price from the national price to $2.169 (meaning with the 6c discount for using FlyBuys they were actually cheaper by 2c).

This morning however Z has raised their price by 4c - $2.289 at the national price, 2,209 at Z Green Island
None of the other chains seemed to raise their prices based on what I could see locally and via the Gaspy app.

Have to watch that sometimes. People ignore the fact it says don't include discounts and go and slap the price down to what they got off their shopping spend... :P
