I know nothing about the specific model years. I regard the Swift engineering as benefiting from rally test experience mechanically, and also far superior handling to the Jazz. I would go swift every time. But check the crash protection ratings also. That is all.

haha. would love to see others opinions on this topic. I have owned and driven both swift and a jazz. Currently I have had the Jazz for little over 2 years. I had the swift for just under 1 year.

I prefer the Jazz over the swift but for different reasons. I like the spaciousness of the Jazz compared to the swift and the drive as well. The swift was a good car but my sister and I shared it as a primary car and it didnt suit our needs so we got rid of it. The Jazz is now my primary car and I am loving it. My sister got herself a Civic.

In terms of maintenance, I have had to spend about 400-500 over the last year to get the battery changed (it had the original battery) and get the brakes changed (original breaks) and also get the tires changed (I believe they were the original tires!). The car has done about 120k kms. I find that it runs more efficiently than the Swift in terms of fuel - but that depends on your style of driving.

I just like it for the fact that it has a lot more space to transport things and people! the backseats of the swift were a lot more squashed and not enough leg room for people in the back.

Edit: fixed typo

Yes that's what the reviews say. Buy which one costs more to keep?

My wife has a Swift Sport (Late 2012) so far the only costs she has had is one tyre (puncture), annual servicing around ( $200) and fluids, thats it. Of course there is WOF and Reg. She purchased it new and it has done around 24,000 kms

While I was typing I found a cheap corolla! At this stage I'm leaning jazz in this discussion.

Umm I guess so. I hate cvt anyway. But that's not a deal breaker unless it's mated to a 300hp engine where you go what the hell

I should note - I do regular maintenance on the car.. but regular I mean, i grab one of those daily deal vouchers (for about 50 bucks) for servicing every 6 months or so to get all fluids topped up and everything checked. Those vouchers usually include WOF as well so its kind of a good deal.

I bought the car second hand from Trademe (NZ New) and it had run 85k km. But ya, no regrets on the buy and I intend to keep it at least another 2 years.

If you drive a CVT correctly they are great especially on hills and they reduce the number of Z visits.

Yes they do. That's why they're there, to keep the engine in the optimal torque band at all times. I hate it.

Let me qualify. There aren't many things that I like in this world. Ideally an engine with oodles of torque right from 1500 to 6000 rpm mated to a robotic clutch manual or dual clutch. But lol I can't afford one of those. Hence although I hate the eternal lag of the cvt rubber band winding up to get the torque to the wheels, I'll drive it if it's cheap to buy and cheap to run.

Apologies for being blunt as a tool
