both imported, both around 40,000ks
I know a lot about the specs of these cars, reviews etc ... but i know nothing about their maintenance costs or reliability ... anyone can shed light?

It's both manual.
Krishant007: haha. would love to see others opinions on this topic. I have owned and driven both swift and a jazz. Currently I have had the Jazz for little over 2 years. I had the swift for just under 1 year.
I prefer the Jazz over the swift but for different reasons. I like the spaciousness of the Jazz compared to the swift and the drive as well. The swift was a good car but my sister and I shared it as a primary car and it didnt suit our needs so we got rid of it. The Jazz is now my primary car and I am loving it. My sister got herself a Civic.
In terms of maintenance, I have had to spend about 400-500 over the last year to get the battery changed (it had the original battery) and get the brakes changed (original breaks) and also get the tires changed (I believe they were the original tires!). The car has done about 120k kms. I find that it runs more efficiently than the Swift in terms of fuel - but that depends on your style of driving.
I just like it for the fact that it has a lot more space to transport things and people! the backseats of the swift were a lot more squashed and not enough leg room for people in the back.
Edit: fixed typo
