What link did you see that?
Sitting at 86k at the moment so should get it in very soon then if it is a belt
Ring any Mazda dealership with a workshop and ask the service manager for the service intervals for your car and whats required.
Most if not all should be happy to provide this information.

Goto carjam.co.nz, enter your rego - look for "Engine No" - pretty sure usually the first 2-3 digits represent the base engine type.
My Mazda shows as "LFxxxxxxxxxx" and my old Datusn shows as "A12xxxxxxxxxx" - LF is a mazda engine, and A12 is the engine that was in the Datsun.
Then google the first few digits eg: mazda LF - should give you a result on the engine type via wikipedia, and have a read.

If it's anything like my recent search for a car for my son, the variants and imported models make determining this without a physical inspection sometimes difficult. Even the dealers I contacted sometimes got it wrong.
Best thing it to have a look at the engine itself if possible. Alternatively if the vehicle has an owners manual have a look in that to see if a cambelt is mentioned in the service schedule.
If it's a belt then yes at nearly 90,000km it's probably due a change. In saying that check with the manufacturers service schedule because some models I saw were up to 140,000km.

If you want to believe Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Demio
A 2006 Demio is a second generation Demio. The 1.3 uses the ZJ-VE engine from Mazda's Z series of engines.
Mazdas Z series of engines are Dual overhead cams driven by a Timing Chain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Z_engine#ZJ
If it's any comfort, most of the older 4 cylinder Mazda petrol engines which were belt driven (but I agree that the OP's one probably is chain) were "non-interference" - so if a cam belt broke the engine would stop and you'd need to get the belt etc replaced, but the valves couldn't hit the pistons so the engine itself would have been fine.
I believe one of the reasons that "non-interference" and belt drive is essentially obsolete, despite the fact that belts if maintained as required are probably better in terms of noise and valve timing precision, is that those non-interference engines required indents in the piston crowns so that there'd still be clearance at top dead centre with the valves fully open, and those indents slightly reduced fuel efficiency/increased emissions.

Whats your engine number?
Where do I find that at?
Often on the vehicle data plate - might be one on the b pillar of the passenger side door. Otherwise on the firewall under the bonnet.
