This, from Z Energy, seems like a good idea. https://sharetank.co.nz/

You can forward buy your petrol and play the futures market. Pay today with the expectation fuel price will go up tomorrow when you need to top up your tank.

Or get Gran in Cheap Timaru to pay for fuel and you get to use it in Auckland - avoiding the regional fuel tax.

Can me a spoilsport but I just think concepts like this are the dumbest thing ever.

I don't want to play a game to get good deals. I don't want to sell my personal data to get good deals. I don't want to have to drive around ensuring that my fuel level will allow me to fit $40 worth of petrol in to get a good deal. I don't want to stand at a petrol station and put two tank fulls in from different pumps to get a deal. I don't want my purchasing habits to become big data to get a deal.

I just want cheaper petrol and will support retailers who don't go out of their way to make it hard to get that.

Really just shows how out of touch Z energy are.

Surely everybody will just fake their GPS location to be Rotorua and get cheap petrol causing the whole concept of the app to implode?!

Surely it’s easier just to buy an EV?

Locally, Allied Petroleum is the fuel pump for you. All you need is a payment method and the cheapest fuel in town is yours. Trouble is you have to drive some distance to get there.
