thanks for posting this; I'm not sure how impressed my wife will be with me having purchased one, but I know the kids will find it easier to use this rather than having to use the Mac Mini connected to 'their' TV to find content, and it'll be great for taking on holiday (much easier than unplugging and setting up the Apple TV to achieve the same results. I think I've read on another thread that the new Lightbox service isn't yet compatible, but hopefully that will come with time...

That whenever there is an Internet outage or they just can't access what they want they revert to broadcasting an open network allowing anyone to reconfigure the chromecast with any network details.

I haven't used one before, but does anyone know if they will let you watch shows off TVNZ on demand streaming off a samsung galaxy?

No, the TVNZ on demand app doesn't support chromecast. Most likely as it's not officially sold in NZ?

You may be in luck. If your Samsung is S4 or above, you are able to mirror the device on your TV - should be ok to mirror TVNZ streaming. Alternatively, download the Chromecast extension to Google Chrome on a PC and you can 'cast' the Chrome browser window to your TV. That's how we watch On Demand - works a treat (no more hooking the PC up via HDMI cable).
