There was a $40 charger at superxheap for D and C and smaller ones. Not got it since I have some us$20 ones on the way from aliexpress

 

Anyone know if a  charger that charges the old NI-CD batteries, charge these newer batteries? I have an old sanyo one that fits C's and D's.

 

If it trickle charges then they will get full eventually, but nicd's were tiny capacity so they sized the current for that so you are talking days to charge, and leaving them in there may damage the cells, and without a decent current it can struggle when cells get old to put a decent charge into them.

Yes, in a pinch use an old slow charger but constant use will just have the cells die sooner.

just once in a overnight or trickle charger can be enough to fry nimh's . That happened with my 1st set of nimh's

Brought a 5V, 3A power adapter this morning for $3.50. Comes with multiple plugs for different devices. Very sharp price for such a high current, NZ standards compliant device.  If you need any power adapters, this is a great time to buy them - perhaps to replace adapters that came with US sourced devices?

4 pack of low self discharge, nimh, 6000mAh D batteries are now $5. Good excuse to buy a new maglite 3rd gen led torch. Also a nimh battery charger....

It must have been faulty or something, I have run many nimh's in a cheap timed 16 hour overnight charger with no impact on their capacity when they went back thru the good charger.

Any constant current dumb charger for nicads will be putting out 0.1c of the nicad capacity, which will be 1/3 to 1/4 of the nimh capacity. The only ones I would worry about are the ones that go from AAA to D size in a single slot with the same current and spec out 3 hours for a AA on them, so are 3-400mA current.

Its also handy to have a dumb charger since the smarter ones will often not start up when the cell is down to close to 0 volts without either 10 mins or so in the junky charger to get the voltage up, or else "jumpstarting" it off another full cell to get it running.

I bought some of those, and also the switchable 2.5A one last weekend for only 85% off. Ah well, such is life. Didnt want to risk them selling out and missing out when things got to 90.

Maybe, but I still think they might go to the $1.00 and $2.00 bins strategy to sell some of the cheap cables and other junk that's not been selling.

I bought one too. The list price was $55 and it was supposed to have 85% off. It came up on the till as 75% off. When I pointed this out to the lady behind the counter I got a rather short response saying the price tags are not to be believed, if I don't want it for that price then tough. I paid my money and left with my tail between my legs. Got to pick your fights....

Bought an arm full of power supplies today, a few 5v 3A,  a few 12v 1.5A and an adjustable car one.  Always handy to have around.
