Biggest annoyance so far is the tablet is 1280x800.
There are quite a few windows store apps that require 1366x768.

You can't even install them.

Specifically dynamics CRM. Grrrr.

Nice try diverting the conversation, but security is a different chat from whether I can run apps. A quick bite though - I am sure those $50 android tablets can run the Dynamics CRM for tablets app! The most secure tablet on that list was $99 - same as the HP.

This is a cool tablet.
I am using it as a laptop replacement - hooked up to a 22inch monitor with USB OTG and a displaylink adaptor.
Using Managed Desktop from www.mhacloud.com - shameless plug :)
An amazing portable thinclient and seriously - almost a pc replacement once you have the gadgets.

However when I want to use it as a tablet it falls down.
IE is a great mobile browser, but the store and this tablet do not seem to play nice.

Microsoft is the productivity company - hook me up with some sweet sweet productivity apps!

not a diversion just pointing out you get what you pay for ;)

There are 2 solutions here. Buy a device with higher 1366x768 specs or Dynamic app gets updated to support 1280x800

I'm not sure why the app doesn't support this but will find out.

Personally I think 7-8" companion tablets fall into the death valley between 6" Phablet, 7" Superphablet and proper 10" Tablets

Devils advocate - You don't read the specs of an iPad to know if it will run apps from the store.
Resolution is such a PITA one as well.

I have an iPAd - a 10" one, and basically don't use it.
My laptop is 12.5 inches, and the ipad while significantly lighter just isn't as flexible, that's been my daily driver.
I had a Surface pro, which was ok, but it was both too small as a laptop, and too big as a tablet. Essentially to be productive it needed to be docked.

I see with the 7 - 8" that it is small enough to be a tablet, and there is no confusion that it's a laptop/productivity device as well.
Some basic stuff - a few notes in one note, a bit of email and some crm updates (cough), but largely consumption.
Where it becomes cool (for me) is that with USB OTG I can essentially dock it, and it is a full fledged desktop replacement (using a hosted desktop).

Imagine being able to dock your phone into full size / mouse / keyboard and running your remote desktop into mhacloud from that

Yeah man - that I'm salivating for.
It will honestly be a single device world then - especially if the docks are cheap enough.

But nothing has quite got it right.
Even this HP Stream is close, but not quite - we're getting another version in from Aliexpress to try - 2gb ram, and native hdmi out to see if that improve matters.
However brand counts a lot - nobody ever got fired for buying hp.

For anyone who wants a good keyboard w/stand and a mouse for the tablet, I am using the Microsoft Wedge Touch Mouse and Microsoft Wedge Mobile Keyboard, which comes with a keyboard cover that doubles as a tablet stand. It's now a pretty great note taking machine that I use at work as OneNote sync between devices.

Most of the time at home I prefer using my MacBook Air for browsing because everything about it is better but an additional 13" laptop at work is a bit much.

You are very much right here, people pay low $$ amounts for android devices from china and just think those baked in apps/things are just part of the OS when they could be stealing info and sending it god knows where.

A bit of an update on mine

Amazon has agreed to cover more of the cost to send it back and will refund the purchase price.
I picked up a local NZ one yesterday that does not have the problem so very happy with the device, still a bit pee'd off with the issues of the first one but that is life.

Ipass wifi included
Takes a 64gb micro SD card.

I had the wifi problem too - ramdomly disconnecting or showing as limited.

Updated the bios and installed the wireless drivers from the hp support site. 3 hours and no problems so far.

Are you sure about the 3G? The K2L01PA which seems to be the model stocked here makes mention of a microSim slot

I know, Confused me too.
Nope - no 3G. taken off the back and checked everything.
I'll be damned if I can find it now, but I found a page. There are actually about 5 different models.
Some are 4g/3g supporting different bands and there is one with no 36/4g. That's the one we get.

The specs in the store are wrong.

And NZ stock does not have a 3G modem at all? Odd how those links and pbtech make mentions of a microsim slot; or is it just an error handed down from HP's specs?
