mAYH3M: Does the 1GB RAM gets in the way of fluid UI and how good it is at playing videos in Flash and Silverlight.

Silverlight doesn't work in the touchscreen version of Internet Explorer so you have to use the desktop mode to use Lightbox. It works ok though, video was pretty smooth. I have heard that the audio is pretty awful using headphones so probably not great as a media device

I too can confirm the static noise while using headphones on my Stream 8. It comes and goes; not a big deal for music but for TV/movies I imagine it could get pretty annoying

I Miracast my display/audio to my TV and it works fine, the glitches just seem to be through the 3.5mm audio plug

Windows 8.1 Update 1 on these devices has been tuned to run with only 1GB of RAM, it works a lot better than you would expect with 1GB

I have an ASUS VivoTab Smart (Windows 8, 10", 2GB RAM, 64 GB mSATA storage). Updated it from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 then Windows 8.1 Update using Windows Update. The thing ran very slow. I was so tired of it I decide to blow up the recovery partition and just install from an ISO with Windows 8.1 Update directly from the microSD - if it worked, great, if not, too bad.

Installed and with only Microsoft standard drivers it runs so much faster than before (unfortunately decided to install the ASUS drivers and the Intel Graphics driver is actually older than Microsoft's own. Might reinstall again without the ASUS drivers but now that I know it works it will be a lot less risky).

The point of the post is to say that yes, you can have Windows 8.1 performing well even on lower hardware configurations.

This I 100% agree with.
Using the metro/modern UI it is pretty amazing.
Switching between mail, ie, twitter & reddhub is fast. Apps load pretty fast.
The only time you notice it is when the apps themselves get memory intensive:
Lots of pages open in ie, lots of pictures in reddhub etc.

For $200 NZ this thing is pretty amazing.

I tested audio and there is definitely a fuzzy background noise. It's not terrible if you are watching a show with continuous sound though, perhaps a quiet show would be annoying. Lightbox works fine in the desktop IE client or in Chrome.

Has anyone tried the best buy Insignia 8 as an alternative? This review vs stream 7, the
insignia comes out on top: (has hdmi out)

A couple more points, The insignia flex 8 only has 16gb internal storage, but a nice sandisk UHS1 128gb microsdxc will fix that.
This is very new from what I can find, released around 15 Nov. Not many reviews yet. From a more technical perspective, this device probably requires
compression of winsxs (@ freitasm, hehe), blackviper service modification and NTlite custom os.

Haha I will test crysis and report back with a video if it runs okay.

On another note I ordered something from the microsoft store in the US the other day and it has been shipped.

Used paypal and put my billing address on the microsoft store as my youshop address.
