Impulse buy of a Surface RT, thanks team. I have been tempted by a Pro for a while but this will let me assess form factor, Win8.1, etc for cheap.

Yeah the Pro allows for real work use, as can connect to domains and all, but lets not get carried away with comparisons when the real drawcard here is clearly the 10" brand name tablet at an incredibly low price!

Same here, Cheap enough to justify it!, Now for the long process of doing upgrades from a fresh OS

if you're trying to install Windows 8.1 RT on it, just install KB 2871389 then go to the Store and do the 8.1 upgrade

Hmm... looks like I missed the Surface RT deal (Noel Leeming and JB sites say out of stock, and I doubt there'll be any left at either store tomorrow. )

I just picked one up from a NL store, but only one left after me.

I would say it is on par with an ipad 2. Slightly thicker and heavier. You can also see a grid of wires on the screen when it is off which I am guessing is the capacitive touch screen layer, which you can't see on ipads. The screen isn't retina so you can see pixels, and the viewing angles don't seem quite as good as an ipad. Overall it looks to be a nice device for $280, and lets me use windows 8 metro like it should be used. At least IE seems to have flash for websites that use flash

I suggest trying a store rather than online. I went to our local JB store with my sister late afternoon for her to buy one, and they had a handful left.

I missed out on checking stores today (both close at 5:30 here afaik), and I doubt there'll be any left tomorrow. From what's happened with similar deals in the past, I expect any remaining stock to have been snapped up by staff members. I'll still check anyway, though.

Good luck. Many people may not know about the deal, so you maybe in luck if you get in quick tomorrow.
