I just ceiling mounted one on the weekend, using the two screws and plugs into gib. It's fairly straight forward to do, except there's a bit of trial and error finding how far in to screw the screws. They have to be far enough out that they go into the slots on the E400, but if they're too far out, the E400 hangs lose with a gap from the ceiling.

BTW, it seems the default for auto channel selection is only to do it on start up. That would mean no adjustment as the environment changes (through neighbours etc). However, you can change it to be daily at a set time. Has anyone played with that? Or are people setting up a daily auto reboot of the whole device or something?

I set a daily check around 4am when nobody is likely to be using the Wi-Fi. Not sure it achieves much as 2.4 is so chocka here with channels 1, 6, 11 being very popular and a neighbour running 40MHz on channel 6 that spans pretty much the whole space. Meanwhile I've got the 5GHz all to myself so again no real advantage switching channels.

I won't comment on reboots ;)

Yeah, good point. We have a massively crowded 2.4 GHz, but acres of free space in 5.0 GHz. Previously I had to use 2 SSIDs to force client devices to take advantage of the 5.0. However, with the E400, so far the band steering seems to be successfully doing that for me.

anyone else have the access point change channels on them when its been manually set to a channel?

my 5ghz channel on one of my devices was set to 52, and when i looked today it was showing on inSSIDer as 36, and on the device as 36, but in the settings its showing its manually set to 52.

i had to set it to another channel, wait for it to apply, then change it back, not cool when your other access point is on channel 36.

I'm happy to report that GoWifi were extremely fast and helpful about sending me a replacement E400 for my faulty one and that the replacement has now been running for 24 hours with no issues at all.

Seems like I just had a dud originally. Meanwhile other unit has been working great for nearly 2 weeks.

My phone, an original Samsung Galaxy S, (the first one from 6 years ago), won't connect to the Band Steering wifi unless I manually try reconnecting several times, then it gets an IP address. I think I'm going to need to create a 2.4Ghz only SSID at home for it to connect to, otherwise it will drive me up the wall! Not as extreme a problem you were having, but annoying just the same. I guess the nature of the way band-steering works is bound to upset some devices. That does mean I'm nervous about using it on the unit at work, where I won't always be on hand to fix the problem. Wondering how I'll handle that....

Yeah same issue as you have. Won't connect automatically. May connect after several attempts/ turning wifi on off/ rebooting phone.

our 2 Xperia SP's have issues reconnecting after they drop off. dont have to restart them but normally have to go back in an tell them to reconnect. I put it down to the device not the AP's though.
