hairy1: OK, now I am confused. I couldn't find the model number on the JB website. The only way of knowing is if someone who purchased from JB confirms if it is a D5803 or D5833...

IronH said it's the D5833 earlier in the thread.

Its back again on jbhifi website, but they have increased the price to $749.

Is there any way of getting discount on this price, considering their last offer was $497/479 few days ago???

specials dont last forever

its unrealistic to think the price discount would be forever

I understand specials don't stay forever, but its equally unrealistic to buy something at full price which was $250 cheaper few days ago.

Thats why I asked if we should try to ask them for a better deal instead of paying full price.

maybe you should of brought the item while it was at its special price, guess there is no harm in asking

when the price is low the retailer usually (not always) get kickbacks from the supplier. so JB will lose money selling it to you at that price today. why would they?

$749 is the rrp, so it is also unrealistic that they will give you the sale price again. They then had them on sale for $698 for several weeks before Xmas, then they had them on sale for $497 for about a day (from what I hear stock ran out very fast, understandably)

you can always ask for a discount, there isn't anything stopping you from doing that, but don't expect them to come anywhere near that low either. They won't care that you missed the boat by a week, they will only care about what head office has allowed them to sell at. I have no idea how JBhifi managed such a low price (pricing error maybe?) but I'd say its unlikely to be repeated anytime soon. Especially when considering the cheapest parallel importer on Pricespy is around $630 incl postage.

Be aware you get two year warranty if you buy from authorised distributors (JB, Telecom).

There are some unpleasant stories about trying to get any warranty support at all from parallel importers.
