kiwijunglist: Oh. Harvey Norman having a big clearance.

We have been waiting for their sealy posturepedic beds to come up, they are down in price with their deals at the moment. Saved us $1350 on what has been the normal price since beginning of the year.

And the connection to the "bargains and deals" aspect of this thread is...??!!

What price did you get quoted? The Mt Roskill store quoted me $1783, they're $1699 at avworld.co.nz

Cost is so inflated at those places that it's often more than normal discounts. Might have a try at jb tho they may cook the books less than noels did.

Flyer for the JB Friends and Family.

I also see they have some pretty sharp deals on before this (Nikon D3100 DSLR with 18-55mm lens for $488, X360 4GB for $199).

These cost+ deals are pretty good for items that usually have a lot of GP in them, for example Headphones, accessories, Speakers. Also good if you want to pick up a 2014/15 Model TV, they haven't really been smashed at retail yet.

I have to admit to being a little sceptical of these "cost + " deals.  As a general customer, I have no idea whether they are actually at cost or not.  Don't get me wrong - always happy to get a good deal, but I do wonder whether this is "actually" cost, or whether it is used principally to deflect requests for further discounts (i.e. "I can't sell it any cheaper than that, it's already at cost!")

The 'cost' usually refer to retailer buying price on the invoice. However, there is always a rebate where the retailer make money from the supplier.

Camera model "S1" sold from supplier "A" to retailer "D" at $125+GST. Retailer "D" got a rebate agreement with the supplier "A" at 15%.
If Retailer "D" sold 1 unit of camera "S1", retailer made the margin from the customer and they can ask supplier to pay them 15% of the cost which is 15% x 125 = $18.75. Basically retailer made money on both end.

So on the paper Camera "S1" cost $125, and you will buy the camera at those special sale for $125 x 1.15 = $143.75. However, the true cost for that camera is 125-18.75 = $106.25 so the retailer still made their margin.

I agree with trig42, the best thing to buy is headphones and accessory.
