I still can't believe that HDMI cables cost so expensive for a digital cable. I've bought heaps of 1.4 cables from Chinese retailers for only a few dollars with free shipping. Gave some to friends and family, none of the cables have had any issues over the years.

Just before Xmas DSE were selling their standard DSE branded 1.5mtr hdmi cables for $0.50 each online! I got 10 just for the hell of it.

Suspect that was all about cashflow. They would be getting sold at below cost. I have recently seen a family business close down, and they had a lot of stock, and just discounted everything well below the cost price, just to at least get something from the stock. If they closed and still had stock, it was pretty much worthless for them. To end up with stock after it has closed is a bit of a headache.

Is it a bad idea to order from DSE online store now? saw the new Apple TV with 10% off, and they don't have the new model in physical stores.

Perhaps, but you can always do a charge back on your credit card they don't deliver it.

I ordered a PS4 eye camera yesterday afternoon because it was on sale and not available in any stores nearby. It arrived by courier this morning.

I ordered a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 2 online for click-n-collect, as I was able to select a store that had stock.

Turns out it was shear luck - the store did have stock, but initially claimed they didn't.

A call to the store to confirm stock is a *very* good idea if you are going with click n collect.

Too much hassle. JBHIFI doing the same. Go to a store and only exchange cash for a good that leaves with you. Not a promise of delivery.

During DSE receivership sale are there any guarantees for online sales?, delivery of a product or a refund. Thinking of ordering TV online but don't wont to get caught out. So if the item I order is sold out I'll get my money back, unlike those poor buggers who lost their money when DSE entered receivership.

Will banks cover it though, if it is known to be in receivership. eg. Is there a clause in the credit card terms that cover them? I would have though it was higher risk for banks.

I took the risk and bought from DSE(didn't see the deal from JB, probably not on sale now), before I made the purchase online, I called a local DSE and ask about the new ATV, the staff just say they are closing down and won't have the new one, anyways, I still order it online with click and collect, got the collection notice in like 1 or 2 hours, collected with no problem, staff look kinda sad tho, very quiet. :/

You are not dealing with Dick Smith, you are dealing with the receivers/liquidators. They guarantee things. If they didn't nobody would deal with them. They are very reliable and follow the letter of the law so if you pay you get the item or your money back.

Discounts have now increased to 25%- 70% off.

Still only 10% on Apple stuff.

I was in one today and I reckon the discounts only brought them down to what everyone else is charging as a normal price. Lot's of potential customers were walking and then out again without buying.

Yes, that's what I found yesterday in a Melbourne store. Tho I did get 40 AA batteries for $5.99 which isn't too bad.

Picked up a couple of 6000 mAh D size NiMh rechargeables at 70% off. $15 for a 4-pack didn't seem too bad for low discharge with an adequate capacity, and I have a radio I use that that size in from time to time.

Other than that, pretty much all they seemed to have left was wall upon wall of phone and tablet cases (for obsolete models), RCA cables (who uses many of those now?), and HDMI cables. As well as a few bins of very overpriced USB memory sticks - still more than twice the regular price of other vendors for the same thing, despite their "discount".
