sonyxperiageek: I've noticed that Harvey Norman are generally more dearer than other shops this year, especially Noel Leeming. TVs, Small Appliances, just to name a few are all cheaper at Noel's than at Harvey.

After looking at the mailers and visiting both stores I was actually thinking the exact opposite - Noel Leeming seem really expensive on a lot of products.

A Nutribullet is $69 at HN, whereas it's $63 at Noel's. Sony 55"X8500E TV is $1799 at Harvey, $1598 at Noel's. Just some examples.

Went and snagged an LG B7 - I figure it's the C7 i've been lusting after all year but for below $3k which is what I always wanted. Interestingly the staff portal at Noel Leeming had a status of PREVENT SALE on that item and they seem to have pulled it from their website, although Harvey Norman had plenty of stock (40+)

kiwijunglist: Any good deals on bbqs. I'm keen on a large premium weber and small smoker or a large oil drum type offset smoker. Must be reasonably rust resistant come with covers as i will store outside.

Thats a pretty good deal - when I worked at the warehouse we did it then too.

January is typically the hardest month in retail so by offering a boxing day deal of a $15 voucher for every $100 spent in store, you are effectively giving a 15%-off-everything sale.

By making the voucher redeemable only in January, the customers are more than likely going to spend more than $15 worth of product in store during their second visit so they can recover more of that income.

It's also blatant lies. They have never sold the product at that price, so you're not actually saving $2000. The 55" C7 model (the model above this) has only sold for around $4500 or so for the last few months with some deals bringing this down to $3999.

After two poor experiences with Noel Leeming in the past year I wouldn't give them a cent now - their price match policy is an absolute joke and they have absolutely no regard at all for consumer law which they frequently break.

Harvey Norman are selling the same TV for $2996 and claiming a saving of $1185

The Fair Trading act says -

A business that makes these types of claims might mislead consumers if:
it has never charged the "usual" price

It also says

When consumers see an advertisement that compares an RRP with the price the good is available for sale, they may assume that if they buy the good they will be making a saving off the price they would otherwise pay for the good.

The TV has never sold for that price, and I doubt it ever will. Noel Leeming are a very expensive store now with many products in their sale that even on special are still more than other retailers like Harvey Norman sell the product for normally.

Never had an issue with the NL price match. Show them a current website with the price and they have agreed every time.

Due diligence is worth gold no matter who you are buying from. Have not seen a retailer yet who isn’t trying to make some deal out to be better than it actually is, or worse outright deceit.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

A big part of Noel Leemings strategy seems to be based upon 10 / 20 / 30 percent off sales every few weeks, so that probably explains what their thinking on 'perceived savings'.

A vast majority of people don't use PriceSpy like the users of Geekzone, many trust what sales people / in-store pricing tells them...

I've had them reject two price match applications this year. One was a price match from Harvey Norman, the other from Warehouse Stationary.

I simply won't bother buying anything from them as a result - IMHO the price match guarantee isn't worth anything because they simply choose to ignore it, and their current pricing makes them too expensive to shop at. They have become the Briscoes of the consumer electronics and white ware space - selling products with inflated shelf prices just so they can offer bigger sale discounts.

The ironic part of this was that I despised Harvey Norman because of their price strategies a year ago, but the experience I've had buying stuff from them and being able to freely haggle over price has been great. It's a long way from hearing a Noel Leeming employee refuse to price match and then moaning to me about that price being well below their cost so they won't do it.

Even my experiences with JB have been great. I walked it over Labour weekend and asked if they would price match headphones to Noel Leeming because I refused to ever buy anything from Noel Leeming. The guy laughed at my reason and happily obliged saving me $180 (from memory) on my new Sony N/C headphones.

The great thing about pricespy is also the price history - being able to see exactly what price a retailer has sold a product for historically is a great bargaining tool.

Never had an issue with NL price match, last item price matched was a PS4 Pro which I had them match with Mighty Ape, saved maybe a $100 or so, can't quite remember. Overall experience was great.

Yeah neither. You're a bit of a broken record sbiddle, can you tell us again about your NL experiences? lol

I've personally found the opposite to be true, Harvey's prices over time have been hilariously high. Especially when they plaster such statements as "amazing deal!" or "insane price" on it, when it was way cheaper a couple of weeks earlier and NL are offering it for less too.

If you want some good entertainment then I highly recommend reading the customer posts on the Facebook pages for Noel Leeming, or any of The Warehouse Group pages for that matter. There are certainly a lot of disgruntled customers.

There was a brilliant one on the Warehouse's page yesterday (Christmas Day) which unfortunately has since been deleted. This woman went absolutely berserk because her order was stuffed up, and threatened to track down and assault the staff member responsible. There were about 300 comments on the posts and, with commenters unable to agree on whether the original poster was a hysterical nutter, they all turned on each other and started hurling abuse left, right and centre.

Social media at its best.
