It's hilarious that they're even trying to hock their store fixtures at exorbitant rates. $475 for a lockable glass cabinet (sans keys, of course), $5 for an old powerboard, and $3 for a freaking hook!

Headed in today to look at some deals, the stock is becoming less and less, but found some of the A4, A5 poster Displays PVC Plastic which is what I have been assigned to find at my local church so $4 per item is a great deal compared to $25 for one, so will head into the store in a few days time and bring my cash with me to buy a few,

Im waiting for the $40 generic wall warts to go to 90-95% off so I can get some for when I need to use things at places that get all pissy about travel adapters.

Picked up a ceramic 2400W tower heater for $39 and a beard trimmer for $13. No other decent bargains in my store, still stuffed with $49 HDMI cables and $25 8GB flash drives. No wonder they can't shift them, prices are still ridiculous even with 50% off

Just picked up a Logitech Type+ Keyboard for ipad air 2 for about $51. I think thats a pretty good deal. I saw there were a couple of Belkin keyboard covers left on the shelf in Queen street branch. I hadnt checked the price, but i think they might be around $70 (normally retailing for $170).

Also a good time to pick up some screen protectors. Belkin ones are about $5 -$8 bucks for 2 pack.

pretty much nothing left when I went in today, apart from home appliances which are still only40% off, and the sort of thing you can pickup for at briscoes cheaper when they have a sale. Also I was the only one in teh store, unlike last week when there were quite a few bargain hunters. 70% off UHF DSE aerials, but they are home brand, so no warranty, and probably no CGA protection either. Hills ones are 60% off, which should give you CGA protection from the manufacturer. But they will likely discount more in coming weeks, as heaps of stock. What I don't understand is why they aren't discounting the cables down to 80% +, unless they are waiting until the last week.

The Dick Smith home brand stuff still has a warranty - they'll be an 0800 number for 1 year after the last store closes. It's a cash back promise, so I guess it depends on the item, if it's a big TV maybe they'll get someone to try and fix it first. If it's an antenna for $30, I guess they'll just refund it.

Why risk it anyway until it is substantially cheaper than elsewhere? Glenfield had an 8 days left sign up, I dont see things getting cheap enough to warrent the risk in that time.

Walked to DSE Featherston St in Wellington last week. A Nespresso machine, with discount, was only $20 cheaper than Noel Leeming across the street. For $20 more I can get a machine with a retailer that will be around if something goes wrong. And don't get me started on overpriced TVs.

^^^

It makes me wonder just how much duplicate stock (like blister packed cables) they've still got sitting around in the back store rooms.

The TV scenario is a tricky one...

For months and months they haven't been buying new stock, mainly because bills were not being paid (allegedly...).

This means they weren't getting price protection from the TV companies as the market prices dropped.

In turn they were left with loads of panels at a higher price than the competition, with no support on its way.

With the storm clouds gathering, the big clearance sale in 2015 meant some relief was achieved, but sadly some panels simply weren't cheap enough to jump off the shelves.

Then there's the JVC models...
