This Saturday (Sunday New Zealand time) Amazon will be discounting Amazon Prime to US$72/yr instead of the usual US$99/yr.

Also they are making their original series Transparent free to watch during the whole day.

How's Amazon Prime's streaming service compared to Netflix/Hulu? I've got a Roku for Netflix and Funimation and wouldn't mind expanding to more streaming services.

Playback wise it works great for me on unotelly and snap and a fire tv.

Catalog wise it's a bit lacking in some areas but usually something to watch.

Prime gives you access to some TV Series but if you have Netflix/Hulu you are covered. It does have access to more movies than Netflix though. And if you buy on Amazon then you have free US shipping, etc. At this price I am getting it this weekend.

I wonder if we will be able to add it to our existing prime membership.... Mine expires in April. Probably not...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

The biggest catch with Prime membership is the discount on Amazon Devices.

I read on Bens Bargains it works for existing members too. I was on my way to post about the special but see you beat me to it.

Edit: Sorry I misread:

If you have a current Prime subscription, have someone give you Prime as a gift, to start the day after your current Prime subscription runs out. You might be able to give yourself the gift directly as well.

I thought transparent was already free to amazon prime members.

It's a pretty good series, Jeffrey Tambor was awesome in it.

Amazon prime does have more movies than netflix, but you still have to pay for most of them. Netflix does have more "free" movies with it's subscription than amazon prime though.

Also the TV episode in prime are pay per episode, But Hulu makes you sit through god awful American ads.

It is. Transparent will be free this Sunday for NON-PRIME MEMBERS as well.

How romantic ;)

Isnt it only $20 you are saving tho? Worth the hassle of that?
