I went to the Dunedin store to buy a couple but they had no cell iPad Air 2 in stock, so have ordered them online. Note when you register online they send your password to you in plain text....

That is an unusually good discount off an iPad.  Best I've seen before anywhere is 10%.

Friday the 13th sales perhaps, hence "-13%".

^ Correct. They can't be making any money on that either.

nathan: and back end rebates

Don't know if apple give those to retailers, but guess they must. The ipad sales have slowed down for them, so maybe they are pushing rebates to retailers to move stock.

On a 16GB ipad, they make around $20 gross profit. Retailers get soft dollars in rebate if they hit a certain quarterly revenue target.   If they are falling short of their revenue target it can sometimes be worth them losing money on the ipad itself.  Apple margins are razor thin.

Although apples own margins are very high, thats the reason why they are one of the most profitable companies in the world. And it is fair, as their phone and tablet products are some of the best I have found, after using many other brands.

I ordered one online a bit earlier. It is a really really good deal.

Cannot believe they sent me my password in plaintext.

Surely a company the size of the warehouse would have a competent IT person on board to stop this from happening? Seems not.
