Harvey Norman

Here is my Quic referral https://account.quic.nz/refer/39513 if you are keen to change ISP and to get free setup (save $29). I will get a $50 credit if you use this.  Thank you very much if you use my link but I'm sure there are quite a few others who could share the same on here, no hard feelings if you use a different link.

I bought a 4K 40" Konic early this year, for $498, it stopped working after 3 weeks. I was told that Konic 'no longer existed', so they were on clearance for $360 at the time I returned it for a refund.

Would be interested in the failure rate, but it did come with a 3 year warranty, so might be worth the risk to some. It was a beautiful picture, I'll say that...

Why would anyone buy a 4K tv that doesn't have HDR?

Because it doesnt add much when youre not watching 4k content, whereas the smaller pixels make a larger screen much more bareable. Perhaps if sky start to do sports in HDR then it will matter to more people?

Konic is made by KONKA. Konka is one of the top brands in China, big in China, India and some parts of Europe and Africa.
They also OEM for some well known vendors and OEM home brands for some retailers, mainly in the US.

KONKA is not the same as JVC or VEON. I actually work for KONKA and the internal components & panels of the current models are from LG & Samsung. KONKA have a really low failure rate and the 4K panel picture quality is really crisp.

I often see posts on forums from people lumping KONKA or KONIC with other brands like Veon and assuming they are the same.

There are different grades of panels and components & Samsung and LG are still leading the way, there is less and less of a technological gap between the Smart TV's now and there is a whole new range of KONKA OLED, 4K SMart with HDR on the way for the NZ market.

Like OPPO and Huawei, KONKA has made products for other vendors, retailers for a long time and is now finally focusing in on the NZ market.
For anyone interested in learning a little more about KONKA, I'll plug our companies website here (http://konka.co.nz/aboutUs.php), feel free to give us a call. KONKA was available through Dick Smith nationwide before their unfortunate collapse.

Currently available at Harvey Norman, Mighty Ape and soon some other retailers.

Point of this post for me is to highlight KONKA is not VEON and is a rapidly growing consumer electronics brand out of China.

Would love to be in VEON's position, some unconfirmed numbers I've heard via the grapevine VEON was NZ's number one selling brand in the last 12 months.

TWH have advertised for a few years now that Veon is the biggest selling TV brand in NZ.

As for Konka I can't comment on the overall build quality but I have to say the picture quality on pretty much every one of the TVs I've ever seen is terrible. You can walk into a Harvey Norman store and instantly spot the Konka as it's the worst looking picture in there - and I'm not comparing a Konka to a $3000 OLED, I'm simply comparing them to the low end models from other brands that they're normally sitting next to.

Veon at least sell with a 3 year warranty written on the box. That's bold if it's a budget crap brand.

My personal experience with Veon was that the image wasn't that bad, but the surrounding software/case etc were poor quality.

Actually though the one we got had a glass stand and was pretty impressive.

Sound though was terrible, like worse that anything you would reasonably imagine.

Again, fine if fed into a soundbar/stereo etc, but on it's own borderline unusable.

Konka was poor all round. Poor picture, construction, menus/software etc.

Family members have purchased both over the years.

Unsurprisingly you get what you pay for, one way or another.

Both have name brands now.

Have to admit had some issues with the first batch of entry level tablets.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion also, so not taking a dig, just sharing my own opinion.

I've actually been testing out the latest range and I think the displays are awesome. Even when tested next to a Samsung or LG 4K HDR panels, I cannot see a difference, There shouldn't be, as the panels are from the same factory on the 4K range.
Obviously entry level models don't have all the higher end features with any brand, having said that the entry level 4K KONIC screens again are mint & work great with the Google Chrome Cast 4k edition, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

I do clearly notice better contrasts and brightness with the LG OLED and Samsung QLED, Sony OLED model just released also looks visually stunning. Again it's just my opinion, I didn't do any measurable testing to compare the actual results. Sound on all the TV's could be better, some do have better audio than others, but a sound bar or home theater system are far better than all the inbuilt speakers that we've been comparing and testing. The newer Dolby Atmos looks promising from the spec sheet, and the one model I heard really was a step up from the standard LED speakers we are used to. If buying a new TV, look out for that upcoming feature in newer models.

VEON picture quality on their current range is actually very nice, despite VEON getting slammed on some online reviews and forums, maybe that is from older models they might have had.

Either way, please buy what ever you like. I'm passionate about gadgets and really like KONKA, am looking forward to going to their factory in China.
I do also think highly of VEON despite it being a The Warehouse Home Brand. Again I just mainly wanted to highlight the the two brands VEON and KONKA are not the same. Have a good day! :)
