Yeah, that was the most exciting quali I remember.

In a perfect F1 world, most races would be like this. But its a Constructors Championship, so who has the best car will dominate. RBR now, Mercedes from 2014, RBR before that, Schummy and Ferrari. Button had the same. 2022/2023, few seem interested.

A1GP went the way of one of the MotoGP formulas, same chassis, same engine but A1GP failed. Id quite like the F1 sprint races being run using the F3 cars,  so that F1 can showcase the drivers.

I feel the disconnect many F1 fans has is one team will dominate any one year. Its a car series, thats why.

In other news, I just hope we dont see a turn 1 crash. Lots of jeopardy at Monaco. One stop so not great, procession where the leader manages the pace, not great, but with Max and Fernando being true racers, a lot can happen. Ocon is in play too

Well hat was a pretty fun watch. Well done to all drivers, showed a lot of skill out there today.

Yeah it wasn't too bad. Alonso was close all the way, ignoring the extra pitstop. Would have been fun late with him on softs and Max on hards

Good race! Which I wouldn't have expected if I just looked at the results on paper (drivers that qualified 1, 2, 3 also finished 1, 2, 3). A little disappointed that Aston/Alonso ended up pitting twice. I still think Verstappen would have won but it would have been more interesting if Alonso was ~20 seconds closer. But was total chaos at the time.

I like a special livery and McLaren's looked pretty good from the top. But I swear from front on it looked like an Alpha Tauri - red wing/white body/navy nose and orange wing/white body/black nose were very hard to distinguish. McLaren also possibly overdid the sponsors on the nose. The triple crown celebrations and content have been interesting - I though this one was great:

I'm not crying, it's just something in my eye.

A fairly average race from a spectators point of view, but Mercedes is back. I agree with others that the gap was more like 15 seconds. Going by the issues Russell had in practice sessions and that they were better for him in the race, IMO the Merc is pretty raw as a new design, arguably they are in pre season with a new car testing mode, plenty to come yet.

Some random thoughts.

Holiday Mondays are great for watching "live" replays at a more reasonably hour of the morning - I got up and put on the race about 7.30, being careful not to pay attention to any media source that may give away the outcome. Very civilised.

Might have just been me, but I found all the overlapping strategies, tyre offsets and number of pitstops really hard to follow from about P3 down - had no real idea of where drivers would finish until a couple of laps before the end.

McLaren looked good yesterday, terrible results today. Tommy on P1 predicted MCL as his biggest flop of the weekend and that seems to have thoroughly played out.

Martin Brundle had some comment about how Adrian Newey is worth as much as any of the drivers on the grid and I have to agree with that. Max Verstappen + Adrian Newey/Red Bull is absolutely dominating. Not really a serious suggestion, but I'd kind of like to invoke a mercy rule, give VER the world championship now, and make Red Bull swap him for Danny Ricciardo or Liam Lawson to see what happens. Other than VER = P1, seems like a massively unpredictable season as to who is coming out on top on any given weekend. Kudos to VER + RB though, they've clearly done the best job. I don't really know what I am looking at, but even I can see that the RB floor looks super intricate compared to the William's floor pics.

McLaren, Naomi Schiff said she was watching them, their lap times were on a par with Max and Lewis, so the car was there. Zac was hoping both would be in the points. Lando seems lately to be Mr Doomsday. It did perform in quali and it had race pace of the two top cars.

I see the resuklt from Spielberg was altered after the race due to more track limit penalties. I have no issue with the penalties, the problem is they are delayed. If the guy in front has a penalty it can affect your strategy. While I believe they have sensors, they must be having an official FIA required meeting to confirm the penalty?

Horner says its amateurish, no. Its a rule. The issue is that in today's technological world, determining a penalty is way to slow

With the amount of machine learning available and hi res cameras, you would have thought having static cameras watching the key areas would allow for machine based evaluation with a probability score of accuracy allowing steward interaction at a certain threshold... I agree that the penalties should be valid but the time is not.  It also seemed somewhat inconsistent in terms of cars drifting across the lines and not picked up.. perhaps it wasn't the right turns but seemed odd.

Perhaps they could / should go further and embed a line of sensors under the kerbs and then have the corresponding sensors in the wheels so that any car at any time, if beyond the track limit (I don't agree it should just be for some turns; track limits are track limits!) penalise them automatically.

Agree. I don't see a big issue here, x number of turns, its not like you have to line 5km of track

An idea Horner had which make sense, is to line the turns with gravel at the point where the wheels on the gravel side will be in the gravel if exceeding the track limit. Walls are a penalty, as is gravel, so lets use gravel

1200+ potential offences so they were overwhelmed. FIA is pushing for gravel. Easy fix except not ideal for motorcycling racing at the track edge

On a lighter note Lewis was commenting about dominance, its not great for the sport or fair as they can spend time in a dominating season on next years car. He referenced, Ferrari and Red Bull

OK :-)

Watching a bit of Nascar after SVG's win in the windy city. A race at COTA (Austin). Kimi is in it as is Jensen. Track limits DO NOT APPLY!

I might get back into Nascar, Ive been to a race at Atlanta (my guy Mark Martin the 6 Viagra car ran 3rd) and a day visit to Talladega. It got a pain to watch as long and too many pitstops so the net lead hard to tell, not unlike F2

SVG was awesome, but IMO a little bit overhyped, based on my past Nascar knowledge, but he was great. 2024 in V8SC, 2025 in Nascar. If the schedules allow I can see another race up there this season.

Was first street race for nascar from memory, so new territory for those used to turning left a lot but right up his alley from supercars 👍

Great to see.

F1 cool racing at times but the new passing rules of always leaving a gap, coupled with constant track limit violations etc sees us sadly well off traditional racing now. Red Bull yawn fest at the moment, not of their making as such (as in they did nothing wrong) but now just clearly constantly dominant. Disappointing how little the new regulation seasons offered racing and passing unfortunately.

Cool to see McLaren have at least some pace. Norris unlucky to get stopped and bogged down early on in the race.
