When guys go out you cant often make excuses, they are professional sportspeople they are doing their best within their ability. 328 is an ok score, but not against the Bangers. Underperformed by a long shot. Now our bowlers will take care of their roles fine Id expect. But batters let the side down.

Bangladesh did very well at restricting NZ under 330. Lets see how Bangladesh perform with the bat.

Yep, they made the most of the early conditions, but thats gone now, so NZ has to use the new ball, then the extra bounce from Jamo and eventually Wagners chest high non stop bounce.

6" from Southee taking that one off a gorgeous delivery from Boult. Would have been nice, 1 before lunch.

You guys are making it sound like a competitive match. It isn’t in my opinion but it’s good fir the Bangers to improve. Always best to play a better side/player to get better. It works the other way as well

Im quite happy with the top 5 performance vs some good bowling, with Latham getting one of them. Im extremely disappointed with the other 5 batsmen. Wagners was similar to Latham, a jaffa that would have taken most batsmen. But other than that the middle-late and tail were very disappointing not playing around Nicholls.

Hopefully next innings we produce all the way through. Id like to see Blundell play an expansive game, he plays like an opener smothering the deliveries. And Rachin needs to adjust as well to be more expansive.

I guess with Rachin being an opener and now YOung looking the goods, how long does he play middle order for, it will be 6 years minimum. IMO what NZ really needs is a GP offensive type player at 7 and possibly a Cleaver at 6 also, players who have strong intent to score. Time will tell how that quandary of WK and where Rachin fits in, plays out.

Interesting the ball turning quite a bit for the Bangers 2 spinners and 3rd part timer spin. I think NZ will stick to its usual game plans for first 40 overs, Rachin might get a few tester overs earlier than expected though.

Southee swinging it into the wind, very odd, but very good. Another edge, how that went through a packed slips I have no idea, 1ft either way and it was out. Well bangers should be 2 down but when its your day they go your way. I liked Jamo, he got a very short spell, that ball across the lefty was excellent and only needs to use the in swing and should be lbw.

Need a wicket soon with this ball aging.

N Wagner = Lion Heart. What a rippa catch. Probably grazed up after diving onto that concrete pitch.

Edit: OMG another short of slips, that was Blundells. Only way Blundell stays in this team is PERFECT wicket keeping, well, that was his. Also 2 short, he should be bringing them up 1 pace perhaps.

Thats 3 edges for zero result, NZ bowling a lot better than the scorecard suggests. They take the majority of wickets in the slips, not happening so far.

NO, why the flap did Latham listen to so many people, plum LBW not reviewed. They have 3 reviews, and now they almost dont use them. I really hate seeing LBW umpire calls getting it wrong. There was no deviation or thick noise.

Could easily be 6 down by now, on any other given day.

Wagner should have reviewed. That was lbw. How did the umpire get the call wrong. Would have been 2 wickets down now.

Have to agree with Baz about Blundell, being messy behind the stumps. Setting the slips a pace back with 2 catches falling short, another through them, him not going for the short catch to 1st slip which Blundell by all accounts could have taken. Add to that hes not performed since moving down the order for NZ with the bat and hes playing like an opener down the order. Its a real worry for me. Yes losing Ross is a huge loss, but for me it compounds the loss of a keeper who was a consistent scorer in Watling and a superior keeper, who consistently anchored the bottom end of the innings to add significant runs. So we get Conway but we lose Ross, not so bad, but the loss of BJ has shown up already. I dont have an answer, but it is a worry.

NZ also missing Williamsons captaincy imo. He would have gone up for that plum lbw imo. He may have also done something about the slips.

This is a right belter pitch when it was expected to stay green to day 3. At this stage its shaping up as a draw which NZ cannot afford in the WTC.

Edit: Flap now another edge falls 1" short of Blundells gloves. I will say he did well to go the other way. but ugggh.

Frustrating for the kiwis and those watching Im sure.

Definitely can’t afford a draw. When your playing home test series they should be going for the win. I’m quite surprised Bangladesh doing well in NZ conditions. I still remember that one time they got 500 runs in NZ in one of the innings last time they toured.

I didn’t realise we would miss BJ so much. Cleaver must play next series if they decide to drop Blundell. It still early days but I think Blundell should at least be given the next series as final chance to perform.

With Nicholls performance this will add another year of his No 5 spot being safe but I reckon it needs to be given to someone else. Maybe Cleaver, GP or Chapman.

Oh man, this is bizarre, another one through a fairly large slip cordon. 3 threw the slips and 4 edges fallen short. You dont see that often in 40 odd overs, plus a plum LBW missed by the umpire and not challenged. I guess it is how West Indies must have felt in that ~170 innings from Nicholls last season with all the dropped catches.

I really thought this test match was going to be one sided but Bangladesh are putting an effort to score big runs this innings.

Lol another edge, this time going over the top of the slip, it is getting comical. Hopefully the luck will turn soon.

I do wonder given how good NZ are at getting bundles of wickets if the Ump had got the plum LBW right (or any of the edges gone to hand). NZ have created a lot of chances, so I dont think they are out of this, a couple go to hand and a new ball around lunch and NZ might just get a small lead and then pile on, leaving 4 sessions to bowl Bangers out.

We shall see.

OH THERE WE GO, WAGNER FOR PM !!!!!!

Shanto only gets a free 56 runs from the umpire ;-p. Id like to see them use KJ at the other end bowling the same but at 140kph, no respite.

Edit: Boult gets yet another edge that falls short. Surely if Blundell is setting it, he should be bringing the line cordon forward. 5 is an absurd amount to fall short by inches in 60 overs. Bangers would have been all out by now, thats not mentioning the 3 that have gone through a stacked slips. Wagner bowls a normal length and its barely carrying to Blundell, dying into his gloves catching it 3" above the ground......

Munro is going well in the BBL game right now. I hope he scores another 100 today.

Hopefully wickets start falling in the test match. NZ have only got 2 wickets so far. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day for NZ.
