I don’t think they’ve been a real contender at all in the last 4 years or so.
Always close, but never anywhere Mercedes couldn’t just turn it up a bit to cover them.
Yep, they looked closer last season, and arguably if it wasn't for Vettel, they could have gone close to the wire. They have supposedly more hp. Ive seen that, but Im yet to see that under race conditions this year after the hype. That may be true but maybe Merc who know the gap has closed are keeping their extra hp quiet. I like Vettel. He is quick. Like Hamilton he can pull it out when needed but I feel thats gone. LeC is quick, but new, thew rookie mistakes and thats fine. Id LOVE to see Honey Badger and LeC at Ferrari. Bottas has found a new limb, Hamilton dare I say it is racing great, that quartet would be dream to watch.
Bottas is on it again. I didnt see what happened in the last run, grip wise, but no one improved. He just seems to be more solid, more consistent, and lap time wise, perhaps Hamilton more aggressive style may have found its match? Speculation, but 2 wins each, Bottas 3 qualis in a row wasnt luck
Merc seemed to indicate that Hamilton didn't have a full charge for Q3 first run and that the track changed and reduced in temp on their final runs but even so it was an absolute stonker of a lap by Bottas!
Also it clearly showed the issues with ferrari downforce; faster in Sector 1 but slower elsewhere with redbull challenging, well Verstappen anyway!

Ah, cheers must have missed that.
Ferrari just dont seem to have it, they dominated in testing here, although cooler then. Maybe Mercedes kept a few hp in the back pocket from then, and we see that now.
Ferrari are still faster in a straight line but the cars is lacking downforce and is certainly #3 behind Merc and RB, be interesting to compare final sector times to see where they sit in relation to the other teams.
Bit of a yawn fest this morning, the F2 and F3 races were much closer, good to see Armstrong in the leading bunch.
The coming together of Norris and Stroll was the most interesting part. thought we might see some action after the safety car...but nope.
Haas seemed to have found some extra pace with their upgrades.
Wonder if Daniel Ricciardo has started kicking himself yet.
Race leader the same for 100% of the laps, and got fastest lap too. Borderline over this.
Poor buggers doing the editing will have a hard job compiling a condensed highlights version. Will consist of start, pitstops and finish, and that will take about 4 minutes.
Good result for Max and Redbull but Gasly is gash :-( Merc are dominant and efficient to say the least... What has happened to Ferrari, not only their comms and decisions but the car just isn't quick... Fast in a straight line but lacking downforce compared to RB/Merc! Good start by Lewis but overall an average race, not a vast amount going on... F2 showed how F1 could be with the aero as they can follow much closer, looking forward to reg changes in 2021 as if they get it right should change the race dynamics... But then its always been pretty bad, I recall the Shumacher years with the grooved tires and the lack of competition at the top.

While the figures he was quoted to be getting paid this year were later pulled by media, he is getting paid significantly more than he was at Red Bull.
Would you care where you got getting millions and millions per year? 😄
Good to see Stroll running out of talent AGAIN... Yes I used to think he has some talent but hmmmm nope not anymore its very much a paid drive.
The repair bill for him must be huge
once you get a few million in the bank, i very much doubt racing at level is about the money, most of these guys want a decent car and to stand on the podium. I think Riccardo is kicking himself. He is further away from the podium than he has ever been.

I didn't watch so had to read the race reports. I wonder about that too, Riccardo seems too driven to settle for a mid pack car. Would it have been so untenable being number two to Verstappen?

I would say so, you look at most "2nd"drivers.. they always get the alpha or beta test parts. Look at last year even before Ric decided to jump he was getting dodgy parts or even just a underpowered unit.
I think it was the right move, there is way more to the sport remeber that this current version of the car has 1 more season left after this year.
Look at hamilton.. he took a leap of faith into merc and its paid off but it also took him a number of years to get there. I wouldnt right anyone off just yet

From what I recall in the pre race, Ferrari have a different front end to everyone else, or at least the main players, and the commentary team says they are stuck with it, as the front end is also the flow through aero design of more parts.
I hate reg changes. Over time, as was th case last year, it closed up, after 5 years, and Ferrai could well have taken the title. When you start over, there are gaps, as some do a better job than others. Takes tome to close the gap, then we get another change. My opinion.
This track sucks a bit too, its too hard to pass, everyone can drive it in their sleep, so it was processional.
This epsom looked like it could fire, I found last year was good. If Ferrari cannot improve, then not a lot to see
