Yeah the DRS train sucks. Yes they can follow closer, but they can't pass so it's not working as is.
I'm thinking the next step is a user deployable per lap boost, so no DRS but a push to pass of harvested energy that you can deploy at any time, not just on the same straight as everyone else.

They have that already - but I suspect you mean a huge extra dose of power that can be used perhaps only X times per race type thing to create some additional variability to break up the DRS trains that form. Then Latifi has a similar control/button already which he uses to force the grid to bunch up. It's called the steering wheel and he uses it to great effect almost every race.

If you had a DRS train but they had push to pass instead, then the leader will use push to pass to defend, the trailers will use push to pass to attack, so it still becomes neutral. BUT the smart ones will use the slipstream to keep in touch and use push to pass strategically, not necessary in the obvious place. Driver skill, Im uo for that. Essentially a DRS when you choose

Exactly. And assuming you still see the red harvesting rear lights you’d have a guide as to when you could deploy for best impact.

RBR's plan? They can pass as they have DRS and a faster speed trap, they can defend, as was seen, as the faster speed renders DRS close to neutral. RBR's vulnerability is being out of DRS, faster speed but same laptime.

On the day, Max got past early, the rest was history. Had he not, he's at the mercy of a safety car, which prior to the race was a guarantee, but in reality it didnt happen during the race as was expected.

The RBR was dropping the Ferrari as soon as it got out of DRS range. That's nuts. There should have at least been some slipstream affect for the Ferrari at 1 second but it's like it was driving through pudding compared to the RBR.

Yep. RBR has a low wing slippier car so that even with the help of the DRS and slipstream, the acceleration rate was not miles apart so Ferrari gets close but not close enough. No DRS, no show. At least we are past the point of massive horsepower differences, so its down to wings, drag and speed, which will vary track to track. I expect Ferrari to trim their wings from now on.

Interesting race, although once the errors and failures ended, not a lot to see.

Max finished, he wins

Russell dominating Mercedes for the 6th race in succession

No VSC or Safety Car, shock horror

Ferrari reliability

Mercedes probably made an improvement but hard to know. They did reduce cooling which gives more laptime but then that bit them, so not really a gain after all

Maybe Ferrari are sailing close to the wind as Mercedes have done, free laptime but watch the engine if you turn it up more than you should

Unsure why McLaren were so slow

Yeah to all of the above. Definitely an improvement from Mercedes, less bouncing down the straights.

McLaren again a disappointing package despite being a heavily modified car.
Norris quite sick apparently so a great drive for him given the situation.
Still miles off the pace though.

Hass doing ok but unable to sustain.

Several cars succumbed to strong wind gusts impacting the ground effect downforce during a corner.

Hamilton did well to recover, despite defeatist radio messages early on.

Max getting angry over DRS was laugh.

Green Red Bull team didn't do particularly well.

Overall, bit of a yawn fest now. Cars can follow but can't pass without DRS still, so closer but not as effective from an exciting racing perspective.

Ferrari unstoppable at Monaco. Thought it was more Charles being more brave but Sainz is well up there, so the car is just better than anything else.

I doubt Mercedes have made any gains at all now. Lower the wings last time, artificial gain, if any. Now they stiffen the car, and it bounces on the track instead of porpoising, now further away. Perhaps its the weird sidepods being fundamentally poor.

Also if things continue as they are, this will be the last Monaco F1 GP, though who knows what "negotiation" is going on behind close doors

Passes are seemingly banned at Monaco, so undercut heaven I guess

Monaco is an iconic GP, but its a poor race. Years back Alonso held up Coulthard for a massive part of the race, poor spectacle. Im not sorry if it goes.

I liked Hamiltons suggestion of minimum number of pit stops, tyre compounds etc.
Anything to spice it up really.

I went to a Monaco Grand Prix years ago, back when F1 cars sounded insane. Was a pretty cool place but there more for glamour and historical reasons only now really.

not being racist but ferrari need to hire some english engineers and sack their italian ones if they ever want to win anything

very happy for Perez after last weekend but i have a feeling he's still the number 2 driver no matter what he thinks

not bad for a number 2 driver, following in the footsteps of Webber and Bottas

You're thinking of Enrique Bernoldi in an Arrows who held up Coulthard, which made it hilarious. And where else would a car that is effectively a back-marker be able to fend off a title-challenging car?

Monaco would be fine if the cars weren't 5m long.

I'd rather see them adopt a one-time spec for the event, or even better, make it a FF Festival-type event but sanctioned to score F1 points, like the Indy 500 used to be.

Throw in a few wildcard entries for national Formula Ford champions and you've got yourself a great race. But the current cars will never, ever give you anything like that so it's pointless to expect otherwise.

The one I was thinking off was Alonso

Another boring Monaco race. Pitstop strategy? Nah, just cover everyone off. Safety car, rain didnt add much to the jeopardy. About all you could do is remove the chicane at the end of the tunnel and make the tunnel to Tabac a DRS straight. Otherwise its a party event with a poor racing spectacle
