Safety car. Glad they follow the proper means of getting rid of lapped cars, they should not get them to take their lap back, just drop behind the lead laps cars and stay a lap down. Then we can have a good sight, although here, it didn't work out. TBH a start car is cheating, us spectators get a free ride at the expense of the drivers that worked hard, but being a past Nascar fan, a safety car rocks. VSC can be unfair. Markelov in Monaco GP2, won it out of nowhere. VSC came out he was flying, so took his swear merry timemto slow down, other cars on slow turns.

Conspiracy theory, why did Bottas have a clutch issue at the crucial start, then it was ok thereafter?

I wouldn't think they'd use a clutch much once they're underway. Perhaps just at pitstops?

Still waiting for the first race where first to corner gets challenged during the race! Nobody within DRS range to the guy in front for the entire calendar so far!

OK surely it's time for reverse grid starts? I call BS on all those who say it's more dangerous, as from 0-250 there's no huge difference between them in a straight line.

The measures to make F1 more affordable for smaller teams has backfired and made the lower-end teams even less competitive. I want to see a Williams add more boost and/or rev their engines to 20K+ rpm to the point of being occasionally unreliable to cause a problem for the big teams every few races and raise the spectacle.

I've been following F1 since I was about 8 or 9 years old, and this season is possibly right up there with the Schumi dominant years. At least then drivers frequently made mistakes and spun out etc, now they look way too easy to drive for what's meant to be the pinnacle of motorsport. I want to see WRC style driving :)

Thats right, but there is a lot of stuff they can manage remotely. Its so common to favour one driver. Do I really think this?   A little bit

Spain was predictable, well, after a few laps, we can all predict it. Yay, safety car, close the field up, action. No. The field spread kicks in, and may as well save time and do the podium 15 laps out. The last couple of years has been good, plenty of action, but so far..... After all the banter about Ferrari, well that news story is over. Clear No.2 RBR clear No.3 or 2 depending on the track.

Couple of quick points.

The changes on the last few years were supposed to spice things up. That’s why we now have the wider tyres and supposed less aero wings, but it’s all come to nothing different. I’m loathe to pin all my hopes on a similar rule change again on 2021. - like I hope it affects change but I doubt it too.

The pinnacle of car technology/motorsport is a tricky one, as we now live in a very techno world. Problem with that is automation removing the human component. What makes for a cool sport to view is often risk. With the both the chance of mistakes, and the consequences of them reduced, there’s very little emotional buy in and plain opportunities for action to occur.

I too have watched F1 for a long time, and like others have been to F1 events in both Australia and Europe, but I’m just not enjoying this period. I can’t see why anyone new would be drawn to this either. They do have a major issue on their hands, with lots of contributing factors. I just hope they realise it needs a real shake up, and not just bandaids like titanium skid plates to spark and appear exciting.

Maybe something along the lines of a 3kg weight penalty for each point won in the previous race. Or fewer Jules of energy available.

Just something to make it more than 5 cars competing.

I really do suspect that the only true fix will be when all cars run a standard aero and engine packages, leaving nothing but skill, setup and strategy to dictate the winners and losers.

Reduce and add fuel. Finish last, allowed 120KG, first, drop to 100KG. Something needs to be done, and as you've pointed out, the devil is aero. Didn't MotoGP have different fuel allowances for awhile?

Is anyone on any F1 forums at all, or can recommend one?

As soon as you start handicapping based on performance,

a) teams will start manipulating the handicap system to get more wins (e.g. "I can't get any points in this race, so I want to finish *last*". It'll become a nonsense as it becomes a race to retire on the first lap.

b) it will no longer be a competition to see who is the best driver and manufacturer... yawn. Just give out points to everyone for participation

Agree. Its a constructor's championship, may the best car win. You could have a two race weekend by stopping one practice session. Reduce the race to 50 laps, and have a Saturday 40 lap race after Quali. Same cars, all you can adjust are wings, dampers, anti-rollbars , and tyre pressure. Even keep them in a narrow window

So you will have two shows for the fans, one of which is 90% driver, 10% setup skill. These cars wont be F1 cars, perhaps use the Dallara's from F3. They dont handle and grip as well, thats the drivers problem

I think it's all about producing opportunities for errors, and having suitable consequences for them.

Don't want it as bad as those Americas cup races, whereby if you made an error, that was the whole race gone.

Some of these are track related, think run off zones that do cost a few seconds if you need to use them vs super wide at abu dhabi.

Others are mechanical, such as gear shift and breaking errors, tyre grip, aero ability to follow closely/slip stream etc  Make it too clinical and it gets boring/harder to make a mistake.

I'm not a big fan on artificial aspects, such as DRS really, but at the same time, just watching the cars go around in order of performance each week just really isn't cutting it.

If the sport revolves around surprise rain weather events to spice it right up, then you've got a bit of a fundamental issue going on.

Yep. If the formula remained in place for a long time, they will all catch up, as happened with the hybrids. Last year Ferrari could have won. Its been reset so we start over. To me, Danny Ricc for one example moving out, has removed racing excitement, he may as well not be there now
