I wish the Crusaders would stop throwing those massive passes. We have been intercepted 3 times recently. Without that the Highlanders weren't really in the game.

Rib Cartilage for Crotty, probably my worst nightmare watching him come off. Is that his Lions chances done? I think he will REALLY miss him. More than almost any other player I can think of other than Barrett or Whitelock.

Are you taking about the Crusaders or the ABs? Because Ben Smith also left with a head knock. As did Rettallick in the next game. Hansen must have a sharp intake of breath every time one of his key players leaves the field. Luckily the ABs have depth at every position. Has Crotty taken on the mantle formerly held by Dagg in your eyes ;-)

Are you serious about Crotty? I would prefer to lose him to literally most of the starting 15.

Imagine if we lost Retallick, or Whitelock, or Coles, or Frank's etc. I think we are very strong in the midfield and back three. I would think Barret then Ben Smith would be biggest loss in backline.

After 40 minutes in Whangarei, I'd just like to say to the B&I Lions, welcome to New Zealand. I hope you have enjoyed your first half of rugby against the third tier of NZ rugby, with the Super teams, Maori and All Blacks yet to come.
What ever happens in the second half the Provincial Barbarians can hold their heads high.

Man, are these British Lions over rated.

Half time and they have shown us nothing!

They are pussies laughing

Congrats on this team of (no offense) no names of NZ rugby keeping the Lions tryless in the first half and going in 7-3 up. A few basic handling errors doesn't bode well for the second half but well in amongst it for now.

So no fairytale finish but still an entertaining game.
Next up, the bottom NZ Super Rugby side (Blues) on Wednesday. I wonder if they can afford to play a mid-week team against them?

I put a lazy fiver on Baabaas/Lions for halftime/fulltime.  It was paying $12.

What strength was the Lions last night? B team, or A team, or between that? I read a few months ago that ENG is a top top side, much depth. The Lions would be a bit better again as they can topup the odd non ENG player. But even if last nights team was a B team, its pretty poor. Im no rugby head, but that tells me that North hemisphere rugger is pretty weak.

Well, I mentioned Whitelock, and Barrett. Not sure I agree that we have such big stocks of mid-fielders that are both a) in form b) test level tested. None of them that I can think of, have Crottys rugby brain or as dependable defense.

Naholo hasn't looked back to his prior form, Dagg is still finding his feet, NMS hasn't played regular Rugby for over a year.

I suspect Coles is not going to make at least 1 of the Lions tests.

Of course, there are some in form players who are untested at test level, Laumape, Havilii.

Having said that, if the Lions play the way they did last night, we should just be able to send the Crusaders, Hurricanes or even the Chiefs out there in Black Jerseys and give them a thorough spanking.

I forsee improvement coming. I think it's fair that 3 days, isn't huge prep after such a big travel.

Not sure of which "mantle" you speak of? The one where I show loyalty to players who have been some of our best in the the past, who I trust will find full form again ?  (I'll remind you I was actually right) Crotty hasn't lost form. (and yes I do believe he is one of our most important players because I expect our mid field to be key to the Lions tour.

I was simply asking how long rib cartilage takes to recover from?

I think with another week under their belt it will be a fairer indicaton of where they are at. There is PLENTY of good Rugby played in the Northern Hemisphere. Some of the skill showed has been awesome over the past few months, but whether they can hack it down here, yeah, I have my doubts.

The final I mentioned a page or so back, was a worth while watch, and that wasn't test level even.

You know, if you look at the team they picked for the Lions against the Blues, with all due respect to the talent at the Blues, you could well imagine a 50 point hiding being given to the Blues. I am glad I am not out there!

If both teams play to their potential, I expect a pretty healthy contest for 55 minutes then I would expect the Lions should just Overpower the blues, esp up front.

Of course, as we have already seen, that may not be the case.

I recall when Ireland played the Crusaders a few years ago, I expected a close match, but in fact the Crusaders played so badly, I was embarassed. In reality it was simply a case of the pressure put on by a test match side.
