The folly is who do you believe? Its not like Lauda was mis quoted, it was a video of him saying what he said. Now he backtracks that, AKA PR steps in

We know Lauda tells it like it is, IMO he did, now that what he did say is being denied. Bizarre. We also know Lewis can be a hot head. So, is this a case of the truth being told and PR steps in? Certainly seems like it.

No smoke without fire.

The truth is somewhere in the middle.

My guess - Lewis did something stupid. But he's now called up his lawyer. Threatens $$$ .... [You see, Lewis is wayyyy richer than Lauda. Wayy.]

Either way, it is not good distraction for Mr Hamilton to have a punch up with every person he comes across.

Indeed.  It's certainly a bizarre situation.

Ordinarily, F1 teams don't tend to air their dirty laundry in the public domain.  I was wondering whether Lauda had gone "off the reservation" or whether it was a cynical/deliberate ploy for headlines?

Definitely gonna have to stock up on more popcorn for the rest of the season though!

joker97: Sounds like if Nico can just apply more pressure and turn the screw Lewis could just implode. Here's hoping Nico can hold his own. He really can do with a bit of help from Lewis's other rivals ... :)

Nico apply pressure?  The only pressure Nico seems to be able to apply is by ignoring Mercedes' standing orders to avoid coming together.  All of the incidents this year have seen Nico squeezing his teammate against the track limits with miles of empty space on the other side:

Australia:

Spain:

Canada:

Austria:

That's not applying pressure, that's just driving like an a$$ and ignoring team directives.

It is Mercedes themselves who have been applying the pressure to LH

Australia:  Clutch fault

Bahrain: Repeat of clutch fault

China: MGU-H failure in Q1

Russia: MGU-H failure in Q3

Azerbaijan: Incorrect engine mode setting

...every other race this year (apart from DNF in Barcelona) he's won.

Only vaguely related, but you see this a lot in karting.  Whereby one guy does something plane stupid, and you moving out of the way and avoiding a crash that would have taken you both out means he feels like he's incredible for making the move.  Fact is it's more the guy who realises it and reacts to avoid the incident who was the real hero on the day.

For sure. Plenty of other tight fights as well

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realise that it was only anti-LH bias that was permitted here. My bad.

Mind you, LH still has the upper hand, in spite of the "pressure" from ROsberd, as you said, when his car works. It's going to be fireworks all the way to the end! *rubs his hands with glee

No need to be like that buddy. We are all F1 fans here. If your a Lewis fan great, why not, he is  a great driver. If your a Nico fan, he is also a great driver.

But lets try and keep this in house, a genuine discussion. Not a fanboy outlet. As all of us F1 fans will, agree, its about the sport. Drivers will come and go, and develope or not

Me, I'd like to think I can comment properly. Forget bias, lets talk F1.

Prediction: unless it rains, it's going to be a boring race.

Ok i was wrong, it rained, albeit just before the race, and it was still boring. You could count all passing on slicks with one hand. Ok maybe that's exaggerating but man!

That answers my question, I was away and had recorded the race. I was going to ask if it was still worth watching...

I recorded it also, and then opted to record the half hour highlights.

Watching that back, I couldn't believe how many laps it jumped where they didn't deem it had anything of merit for the highlights reel.

Was super excited to see the rain, and then they did 5 (or 6?) laps behind the safety car.  Might as well call the wet tyres the safety car tyres now.

Just watched it. I didn't find it boring, but predictable. After race prior to podium was also predictable, and funny.
