Strangled down leg by Wagner. Anderson decjected.

Test cricket does not need Pink Balls, its well and flappn good. Best test in a long time with a severely crippled team.

Wagner redeems himself with a 4fa.

How does our country have more capability per captia in crtical decision making situations.

We just witnessed something very rare, team forced to follow on that wins, only 4th time in history. And now a team that wins by 1 run, 2nd time its occurred.

Jamieson NZ can hope is back to normal in 3 months recovery time, who do have that is extremely aggressive and fast enough to back it up? Do we give Kuger or Tickener a go? Perhaps Henry and Tickener wih a newish seam. Sears is injured, Im not sure who else has some good fc Fast Medium bowler stats eihter?

You just needed to stay positive oh doubting @tealeaf 😆. A brilliant game of cricket and will go down as an all time classic. Well done to the BC's for not giving up and awesome to see Wagner's redemption with 4 wickets and 2 catches. A lot of positives there but also a heck of a lot of work to do and hard decisions to be made of some players selections.

I always hold hope. My commentary is purely the game, if I suggest what I think too much Im labelled Bias. And you cant back NZ from such positions with their record haha.

Of course inside my head I was holding a lot of hope at 80/5

The individual match ups forced the result. Southee only had Henry prior to the end when Wagner finally became asertive.

Really all is not bad, we havnt lost the 6 years record of a series defetat. sst

But very much getting to the point we need a new Fast Medium bowler until be get KJ back.

Brilliant day for the crowd! Free entry, amazing weather and some phenomenal cricket.

This has got people talking about the beauty and intense nature of a 5 day test!

Good going

Such a shame that we only get colour cricket in Auckland, and the tests are away from our biggest migrant population base.

If I'm reading the Cric Info stats correctly, there hasn't been an Eden Park test since 2018. That's a pretty average scheduling effort.

Meanwhile, Wellington has had a cracker with England and now will also host Sri Lanka in the same summer.

Auckland doesn't have a venue suitable for test cricket.

Eden Park is a horrible ground and even worse with only a few thousand people there.

If Auckland built a decent ground then there would be tests played there, they haven't so they aren't and won't be.

No one seemed to care about Eden Park being a 'horrible ground' during the two barnstorming CWC games held there against Aus and the semi-final against South Africa. No one walked away from those games going "Gee, that would have been fantastic on a slightly bigger ground, oh well".

Eden Park is fine. Maybe they should try scheduling some games there.

It's acceptable for limited over cricket because you get 20,000+ at the ground and it doesn't feel like a concrete mausoleum.

In 2018 28,000 people turned up for the England day/night test across five days. It cost NZ cricket a lot of money to run that test, has zero atmosphere and looks terrible on TV.

They can pretty much break even with 16,500 people at Bay Oval across five days and it has an atmosphere with 3000-4000 at the ground.

Auckland can't get it's act together to build something decent and there are better grounds for test cricket in NZ.

New Zealand have increasingly embraced as much. With smaller grounds, the costs of hosting games are less; indeed, New Zealand came close to breaking even from the Bay Oval Test, whereas they lost far more money hosting England at Eden Park 18 months ago - even though 12,000 more people attended over the five days.

“The players love it – they prefer the intimacy,” says David White, the chief executive of New Zealand Cricket. “The feedback we’re receiving is that the public and fans also prefer the grass banks and the picnic atmosphere of these types of grounds.”

Wildly there isn't huge amounts of wide-open space near transport links that we can just decide to use as cricket grounds instead of the thing they're already being used for. And we do kind of already have a stadium, and we aren't drowning in funds to come up with a specific test match venue regardless.

As for the 2018 test, it was a pretty one-sided game, England skittled for under 60 in the first innings and NZ 100+ ahead at the end of day one isn't exactly a huge draw.

It's a bit of a cop-out to blame Aucklanders for not showing up en masse to test matches but then only scheduling them once every five years and counting so that no one really cares when you do hold one. Give us an Australia game in whites and see how many people go.

E: Also, how wild, the people who actually get cricket games in the regions prefer to get them at the venues they have available to them? I can't imagine why that might be. Guess that's my fault as an Aucklander for not showing up to games NZC won't schedule.

It is what it is. Test cricket doesn't and won't make money.

Nah - a test match vs India in Auckland would draw a bigger crowd - it would just be split more in favour of India, I think.

Would be an electric atmosphere too, I would say.

There were talks about Western Springs being turned into a test ground, no idea if that idea is still floating around?
