Dochart: I was expecting Chapman to play today over Nicholls since he has a better list A record. I hope to see Chapman at least play in the Pakistan ODIs
Same not to mention and average of 52 vs Nicholls 34.
Hes in the t20 squad so should get a game there. He can sometimes get out trying to play some shots that are just a bit cute, but no doubt a quality white ball player.
I think SL may have a better chance in the t20s than the tests and ODIs. A tour clean sweep would be good for NZ heading to Pak, but Id love to see a close match.
Matt Henry avg last 4 Tests, ~29 (with the ball) and Avg ~38 with the bat. Has suddenly become our best Test All Rounder haha.
The bowling is definitely closer to the reality of his accuracy, but imo should be more like 23ish. He puts it in the same spots as Cummins, is 7kph slower but thats not a big deal.
Hadlee only came into his own with very similar bowling until his latter part of the career. Henry has a higher avg to drop from, but who knows, if he sticks around he could get into the low 20s.
Shipley, KJ, Henry, can all bat. I think Southee will stick around for quite some time but his avg has gone up, Wagner likely to stick around. Those 2 arent total mugs with the bat. Then you got Mitchell part time seam. GP adds spin and can clearly bat and Foxcroft is probably even better. Throw the top order in there with a keeper and it could be more golden era still to come.
The problem with SEA for NZ isnt that we do not have quality spinners, its more we dont or didnt have a lot of guys (ie Nicholls) who have the foggiest how to bat against serious turn and bounce.
The longer this golden period goes on, the more it will self propel with young people being captivated by the sport and our teams success. Even more so with TVNZ coming on board.
And suddenly NZ's C team looks a bit short on batsmen. A couple I would have played but I guess they just trying out as many white ball players as possible.
Very impressive batting by SL and then very sneaky bowling taking both Seifert then Bowes in the first over. Well played. Hard to see NZ coming back from here outside a couple of brilliant partnerships, we do bat fairly deep.
Shipley stunned me going from 139kph down to 110kph the next over, unfortunately his last over went for 18, otherwise he was going for not many at all, again, with his height of release, in tandem with KJ they could be very hard to deal with, especially red ball.
Mitchell and Latham going at about SR200, if they keep that up we will definitely get close, if they can even get to 10 or 12th over, we should win. T20 is crazy how it can look doom and gloom and 3 o 4 overs change everything.
Absolutely love our NZ based SEA fans, SL kiwis out there with all their bright colours and people bringing a drum and brass band to the ground, how it should be, celebrating the game we all love.
Edit: Mitchell looks frustrated with that pull shot. Chapman comes straight in to replace Latham and gets going, he is one of the most under rated players in NZ. OH, he gets a NB free hit and puts it over the biggest boundary at the Park. If he these two can get 5 overs together, I think it will have NZ in a very good place to Ice it.
Edit: Nope Mitchell was just losening his splice a bit haha, spanks some pulls to the boundary and over, him and Chapman smash 24 which has NZ back to only neeing 10rpo.
Edit: Mitchell GONE!. He just didnt look comfortable hitting to the onside, picks out one of the longest boundaries and holes out. Hard to be critical as hes top scorer, but I felt he turned down 5 singles or so, I hope that doesnt bite NZ in the behind.
Bahaha how wrong I was, 6, 6, 4 from Ravindra. The kid does have some power after all.
This is probably more like NZs D side (top players in IPL and NZ testing out new players and old players), it really shows the depth of our domestic, I would have had 4 or 5 other batsman in the squad.
Ugggh now Ravindra holes out hitting flat to offside boundary rider. Shipley can tonk it and probably should have come in ahead of Milne but hes now stuck down the wrong end.
Thos singles not run are going to cost NZ it looks.
Ish SODHI you LEGEND, nails a 6 on the last ball to tie the game and sends it to a super over. Oh my, this is exactly what I was hoping for, a close game for NZ, SL are a much better t20 squad as they just seem to lack the depth for 50ov at the moment.
So NZ need to smack more than 15, because after losing a WC hitting 15 wasnt fun haha.
Dochart: Henry should have been playing today. The Sri Lankan side have struggled with Henry in Tests and ODI’s.
Would have preferred they selected an extra batter. They have Young in the side and I would have preferred they selected him over Siefert.
Yep, I agree, but they are just trying out as many top domestic players. Henry has the batting in the tail to finish the final over. Mind you Sodhi did a damn good job haha.

Dochart:
Do you know if the Blackcaps have ever won a super over. I don’t recall them ever winning one.
No, I dont believe they have. The only good part here is if the super over is tied they keep going, like you would have thought the ICC should have thought about for a friggin WC.
If this Dregs team score 196 and then wins it in the Super Over, its a statement of depth. I expect Henry and Will young in the SI matches.
Dochart: How many super overs has Jimmy been in. Feel sorry for the bloke on suffering too many heartbreaks with the super over.
Id say the majority of the 8, so they have won 2 from 8, thats bad haha. And this looks like a loss too. Chapman smacked one straight into the stumps, would have been 2 minimum. Very unlucky over, but fair play to SL, that last ball was a great yorker.
Milne HAS to bowl yorkers at max pace. only 8 runs so cant win it that way, but 2 wickets wins it.
Bumma, but you gotta say very well played in a super tight match for SL.
I know this isnt close to NZ's best team, but thats 2 from 9 super overs now, something isnt working there.
Great game. NZ will field a slightly better team in SI.
A little bit of rain due between 4 and 5pm could ruin the match. I hope not :-(
Whoever wins the toss first should bat and try to hammer it large because the DWS will make the 2nd team finishing their innings, rather hard. If those showers do lose overs that is. Harder to stay on in showers when in the SI as it is just so cold. But was nice to see the umpires stay on during a sun shower in Auck, applying common sense.
