Does GZ do polls? Can we have one for this question?

Mind you, it was a game of two halves.

I could care less for it, I like sports in general but think its over represented so much and takes funding and attention away from all the other sports that deserve it. Same goes with media coverage, Headline news some important guy in rugby did something today, In other news some body we don't know of is now world champion.

No issues with the sport itself just not my thing.

Used to be just a rugby and cricket guy. Played both through school, uni and for the first few years of working. Still love watching but I don’t have the time I used to with a wife and kids who don’t have the same interests. As I stopped playing my sporting interests have expanded into other sports such as triathlon and the individual components of those (ex swimming). I try to now run and cycle regularly for fitness and enjoyment. I still try and watch what I can, most Hurricanes games and All Black games but I don’t watch 4 games in a day like I used to.

Sure I watch any part of a sport where individuals/teams show a display of impressive skill/play. I won’t really watch or take interest in watching games in their entirety or follow who/what the players or teams are.

I do play sport (not rugby) but am usually of the mind where playing is usually more interesting than being a spectator. Same thing with gaming and the relatively new trend of streaming online (Twitch, youtube). I play the games and am interested in competitive bouts of skill but wont devout much time to keeping up with it.

Much more engagement when its something you do rather than observe.

Totally agree with you there.

For all the 'spectacle' of professional sports I much prefer going down to the park with my son for a kick around.

It's a shame sport has moved from something most people did to something most people watch.

Going for a bike ride is also good fun.

Ahh, the exhilaration of the wind through what's left of your hair.....

martyyn: I've never liked rugby and don't see any real skill in it to be honest.

This type of attitude is one of my pet peeves. I'm not interested in association football (I hated playing it and find it boring to watch).

Just because I don't enjoy it doesn't mean that I don't think the players are skillful. It's just not something I'm interested in.

I don't think there is no skill involved because I don't like it.

I am not sure what games you've watched in the last 10 years, but the levels of Skill in Rugby on display are truly amazing.

Correct - and even more so for cricket IMO. To say there’s no skill in rugby is flying in the face of reality.
