I'm loving watching it this year. Record after record has been broken and there have been many firsts for the Olympics!
Simply one of the best performances we have seen so far!

Lisa Carrington - what a champion!!!
itxtme:Do you mean Tom Walsh? It was madness, technically all 3 of his throws were red flagged. The two he challenged were reversed on replay, and I highly suspect the first was fine too but he never challenged it. I believe the third ones concern was around the left foot going above the circle. It can touch the edge but no go on top of it, and it would seem it didnt. To red flag incorrectly 2 [potentially 3] throws of the same person is pretty poor
Edit. did not watch Jacko's, was too late by then for me :D
Thanks for pointing out it was below the qualifying threshold. I couldn't work out why on this last night.

He didn't challenge the first one because it was below the qualifying threshold
One thing I really love about the Olympics is that I get to watch things I only ever make an effort to see once every 4 years: Handball, Gymnastics, Diving, Field events, etc.
I'm especially fond of the field events aa they are fun to watch for the completely uninitiated, as they are relatively straightforward - throw, land, foul or fair. The level of skill, strength and sheer grit is awesome to see - and I think the rarity of watching these sports is what makes that all so apparent.

The diving really has been sensational! I watched bits of the weightlifting this year as well and was just blown away by the sheer strenght!

i will thank my wife for that. i wasn't watching, didn't realise it was on!
Wakrak: Drama in the mens Team pursuit. We were looking good to beat Aussie for the bronze but a team error (from us) gave the win to our pals from across the ditch. Bugger
Damn - I was wondering how that went.

Definitely! I'm a massive fan of handball (being European, it was part of our PE curriculum in school) and Judo (former judoka) so the Olympics are pretty much the only time I'd get to watch them here. Also been watching some of the rock climbing events, fascinating and riveting 😀

For the athletics a fast track plus new shoe technology (eg carbon fibre spikes) produces record breaking performances. On another track the mens and womens 400m hurdles records would almost certainly not have been bettered by such large amounts.
Think Bob Beamon and the long jump record at altitude.
Batman:
best olympics ever. record after record being set by athletes many of whom were training in their house!
Better than Sydney 2000 or London 2012?
No crowds = no atmosphere.

Infuriating when Adams was competing to see the Shotput Final throws being delayed so that middle distance running heats could be shown live.
This is going to be controversial - which sports should not be at the Olympics
Tennis
Golf
Soccer
Rugby
Synchronized swimming (or whatever it is called these days)
Beach volleyball
Skateboarding
Break dancing (Paris 2024)
Surfing (Paris 2024)
and one that should be and has been rejected multiple times
Squash
SJB:

Squash
It escapes me how it's possible Squash has been rejected again. I mean, rock climbing and break dancing? Squash had some of the highest ratings of any sport at the commonwealth games.
