So...Argentina made it through and so did Poland, despite the 2-0 loss to Argentina. Goal difference is a crusher.

Mexico beat KSA, but still went out, as a result of not scoring three to win.

Round of 16 (first knockout games) is starting to look spicy.

I don't fancy Aussie's chances against Argentina, to be honest. Messi vs Leckie. IN saying that, KSA beat Argentina, so everyone has a chance at a big tournament.

How do we collectively feel about England? Can they go all the way this tournament? I'm not so sure...

About now is when an England fan starts to feel optimistic that the years of heartache will finally end ! Football's coming home .......

But remind me, when exactly do they meet Germany? 😂

England do have a younger team though and younger teams are correlated to success, apparently. I give them a solid chance of making the last 4, at least.

Yep any team can take out any other team. I still remember my reaction of disbelief when Brazil went down 7-1 to Germany - is this happening?!?

Wahwahweewah! Germany are out and Spain made it through by the skin of their teeth!

Japan top the group after beating Spain and Costa Rica & Germany are gone-burger.

I listened to post-match commentary on Talksport and as was said there - Japan are far from a glamour team, but if you beat Germany and Spain in a World Cup, you deserve praise and recognition aplenty.

Only 4 group games to go.

Who's going through?

Brazil and Portugal are both bolted-on for RD16 places, but it's anyone's guess as to who the other two will be: Theoretically, it should be Switzerland and Ghana, but mathematically any of the remaining 4 teams could go through with Brazil and Portugal.

Wow - and now the bogey team is gone, how are England's chances looking?

Senegal won the African cup so they're no slouch.

Lots of good games to come !

What a glorious day of football. If only Costa Rica could have held that lead.

It's always England's destiny at football World Cups to collapse in a heap unexpectedly or completely expectedly, depending on your point of view.  When the blowtorch goes on the y-fronts and all that, Senegal are a definite chance of adding to English misery.

Was it in or was it out?  Here's the best pic I could find and zoomed 500% and cropped.  Decide for yourself.

They are guaranteed to lose in the most soul crushing way possible after arousing hope and several million “it’s coming home” social media posts.

it. would. be. hilarious.! I'd be happy to see an African or Asian team win it, but it hasn't happened yet.

The thing is, you've got to string together 4 winning games against top opponents. Even 15 of the 16 top teams can't do it.

It's tough to do , as Australia found out.
