I wouldn't be against a major shake up to give monaco some action.  It can't really be done on the track safely so strategy calls are required to shake it up.  You shouldn't be able to change setups under a red flag, and I'd be keen to say you had to run all 3 tire compounds during the race to spice it up.  Yes it's artificial, but the game has changed from small cars to these fat wide monsters of today and we need something to jazz it up a bit.

Not really artificial if you have too gun it from go to whoa. Its artificial when slow is good

this is a good distraction/smoke screen to counter/cover the Horner scandal, so for as long as needed for Horner to reestablish the internal pecking order. that guys is fighting for his career and this focus on the other guys is perfect for him. if Helmut Marko has his way Perez would be gone, not sure if he supports Ric.

I feel thats old news. Plenty of Horner replacements out there.

Its an interesting resigning for sure... either Max has a #1 clause in his contract and the other free drivers are likely to push him hard e.g. Sainz; Perez has dirt on people (unlikely but it made me feel slightly amused for a while); his sponsorships are so huge that Redbull need it (wouldn't have thought so?); he really is an amazing driver and is about to unleash his awesomeness as we move in to the european race part of the season...

It seems a bit odd given the hurry message he just got and the fact that Ferarri and Mclaren are closing in well and likely to get both drivers scoring enough to cause RB concern.

3 USA races and 5 North American races might be why.

They are saying Perez's sponsors are needed to pay Max's salary.

Marko said last week he gave Perez a one year offer take it or leave it.

Perez told the media not so fast I have leverage and I'll be asking for more.

How much money is involved? Each step down in constructor ranking is worth about $9M from F1

Batman: Perez signs for Red Bull, he is thought to be there to pay Max's salary

I'm astounded by this news, and a two-year deal no less. I don't know why I'm surprised, just a further sign of the malaise that exists in the "sport" currently, more about preserving the status quo for teams than seeking any actual real competition. I've noticed "Kit Kat" on the peak of Checo's cap this season, it appears he's bringing a good chunk of Nestle money to the party so that Red Bull don't have to put their hands in their own pocket.

Probably says a bit about where Horner sits in the organization currently also. Marko has never been a big fan of Perez and, despite Horner's off-paddock dramas, the RB team principal has been able to get his way here I feel.

Don't think this is good news for Lawson in one of the Red Bull Racing seats next year. If they are prepared to keep the consistently inconsistent Perez in place and put the WCC in jeopardy, then I'm not sure they are that interested in moving people around at VCARB. Maybe if the Tsunoda rumours to Haas come to anything, then perhaps he might get a look in. But Marko has been in the media recently talking up the prospects of RB Juniors Iwasa and Hadjar so the hurdles to overcome keep being placed in front of Liam.

Much like Andretti's inability to force the door open, it wouldn't come as a surprise to me now if the same twenty drivers find themselves back in race seats again next season.

I am not sure that is fair. Pay drivers have *always* been a feature of F1. Even Niki Lauda had to pay to get his initial slot on the grid. And some of the historical (and even more recent) examples have been way more egregious than currently; even the drivers might not be in the "best 20 drivers in the world" category are perfectly adequate GP drivers and probably still in the top 50. The spread from 1 to 20 on the grid is as low as it has ever been.

In most if not all sports the top players make the event better, more eyeballs, more excitement

F1 seems to be using the players to make money, sponsor money, at the expense of the spectacle

So Lawson is all but out, I hope Marko finds him a drive as he promised

Lawson well and truly stuck, forever on the sidelines hoping the next year is the year.
