Dochart: I wasn’t expecting NZ to bat so well in the 2nd innings.

Neither not after some of the early wickets. Even Blundell finally looked solid when we needed him. I think 350 would be VERY hard to chase down. However, I genuinely think a big mistake is trying to stick to 5rpo+ and it was over 6 in the second innings. They have 3 batsmen avg above 50, two of them 60, then you have Kohli and one other avg mid 40s and a couple avg mid 30s. I think with soooo much time left in the game they could just stick to playing the bad balls rather than manufacturing runs.

However if the remaining NZ players all reach their avgs plus another 20, that is more like 400. Now that is a number that evokes scoreboard pressure. Who knows maybe a bit more (yeh I know, Im getting greedy haha).

Either way, we have given ourselves a chance to do something very few teams have and not since 2012, and never by a NZ team, beat Ind in Ind. :-) fingers crossed.

TeaLeaf:

Edit: Ravindra again not producing runs when NZ really need them. Is this the start of rot or will Mitchell and Blundell do their jobs, when runs are desperately needed.

This is a little unfair I think. Ravindra has produced runs several times when NZ has really needed them, and certainly in more dire situations than last night. He's stepped into Taylor's batting position and done a pretty decent job. You will no doubt remember that Rosco was pretty hit and miss in the early part of his career, looking to slog everything to cow corner. I think Ravindra has already shown the potential to finish his career with a tally of centuries in the ballpark of both Taylor and Williamson. Given those two head NZ's all time batting records, Ravindra is likely to be one of our batting greats in time.

Great to see Latham get a score last night. If Phillips and Blundell can get set this afternoon and put on another fifty runs or so, plus whatever the tail can contribute, this is going to be very hard to chase down. I've been listening to the very excellent coverage from SENZ and Talksport UK through their YouTube channel the past couple of nights. They have Jarod Kimber providing some great stats analysis and he's pointed out that very few tests have the highest score in the final innings, and even fewer to achieve a test win. The consensus from those commentators is that NZ's total is already beyond India on this pitch and any additonal runs are just icing at this point.

Guess we will see tonight.

Perhaps, I think my mind is going back to his first tour of Ind when he was really inexperienced. He struggled on all pitches for quite some time. He is hopefully long term our new R Taylor at #4.

Im just frustrated with our starts and flops in the middle and Blundell over the last 18months (hes not been alone). Its hard replacing NZs second best batsman all time, probably 3rd once Kane retires. I think Crowe and Taylor were very close, but Crowe did it in a team of much less quality than our golden era team.

Latham has to get GP into the game faster than bowling out Patel while hes getting smacked around. and the reviews, I guess hind sight for him. But we would be close to 400 ahead now with the reviews and possibly bowling GP. Gotta keep an eye on a bowler when they are leaking runs and not just keep bowling them out of reputation imo.

Tonight is a much watch for all Cricket fans. NZ potentially making history yet again.

NZ will need that lead to get to 400 to have a good chance at defending. Highest successful test chase in India is 387 runs.

I believe India can chase this. They have 3 days to get to this total so they do not need to take risks. 1s and 2s will win the game.

Dissapointing but got above 350 at least.

Not great review, that was 50/50 at best. Blundell sold it. If they used it correctly last Ind innings they would be chasing 420 minimum.

Nobody sticking with GP, stuck at 48NO. ugggh. Id be looking to put GP in at 5. Need mitchell and blundell scoring and not leaving GP stranded.

Edit: Finally Santer gets the skipper. I thought they were looking streaky with Two LBW shouts.

Edit: Patel going for runs again, how long will Latham tolerate 5-6rpo at his end before he thinks of GP..............

This is nuts, nearly 7rpo, Jaiswal is an epic player.

Young is quality under the lid close in. Deserved the wicket he caught that they didnt review.

Edit: I agree with Doull, far too defensive this early on, need two slips and mid on further up.

That was much closer than the first review. So close to hitting in line, I think it would have hit wickets but was a mm or two from being in line. Frustrating as this guy could score all of these runs.

Woot slink gets another, not the danger man but still a break through. This will be the bowling match of Santners life.

edit: Thats two very sharp catches for Mitchell at slip this test. Glad they have moved to a more attacking fiield

Edit: Latham second slip, that would have been the second wicket edged through second slip.

Slinky finally gets the danger man. He was getting Ind within striking distance. 10fa for Santner first and likely last time. Well bowled.

I agree with Doull, give Rachin the ball, he turns it and is tall for that drop flight.

Edit: Pant run out by Santner. Ripper game. Ind in trouble now.

If NZ whitewash this series and Eng in NZ, they will be one of the teams in contention for the WTC if Ind lose 5 tests in aus.

But right now I just want to get another couple of wickets to get this Test series historical win under control Just need one more to start the tail

edit: GP deserved that, but great reflexes by Youngy under the lid.

Simply amazing. This is up there with our WTC final win, the americas cup defense (hopefully clark convinces it to get back to auck). The original rugby world cup final win. and similar high end wins for NZ.

That was a team win. Santner clearly Motm. Shame he couldnt equal Hadlees 15 wickets even if he went for many more runs, Hadllee was a freak, imo NZs best player of all time as I favour bowlrs but also avgd near 30 with the bat. anyway great performance by Santner.

Very very odd for Latham to not bowl Rachin at all.

Won't soon forget these two tests, of all the fine NZ cricketers to travel to India and not succeed nobody would have picked this side to get it done. Well done to Santner, deserved man of the match. It's amazing to think that most NZ cricket followers would not have picked him to play, that he probably only played because Bracewell came home for the birth of his child.

Thought the Indian crowd were a little disrespectful. I get they are fanatical supporters of their own side, but it was quieter than a funeral many times when some polite applause and acknowledgement of the good play of the opposition would have been appropriate.

Can't wait for the third test now.

Clean sweep then roll Eng at home, while Ind has 5 tests that count for WTC in aussie. Unlikely but NZ could put itself in position to challenge for second place,

Santner will now have a mid 30s avg and his batting is near 30. Over 30 batting and under 30 bowling is a genuine all rounder,

He simply summed up the pitch better than the others by watching Washington for Ind bowl.

Weather conditions was the winner of first test to be fair, so its only right that we win the last one too :-)
