Batman:

lest you fprget RBR would want to remind you last year without his help (and Masi) Max would not be world champion, RB would be nothing today, and Merc would be boss. but as it is, RBR are the boss and Merc are laughed at. thanks to one man (umm ... 2)

Red Bull ultimately won last year mostly thanks to the race director Masi's inconsistent application of the rules around safety car restarts.

Merc was always going to be in this position this year, due to their daring car design not working for a significant part of the season.

Likewise Red Bull had a solid package last year, finally on par with Merc, and this year have delivered again.

Pérez definitely helped and was pretty epic in that last race.

He's doing ok but I suspect Gasly would be ok in that role again now too.

Anyone who walks in and expects to be fighting for a lead role in the team against Max is destined to Bottas there and eventually need to suck up their pride or crash out and burn like Daniel did.

If Hamilton won last year, I think he would have retired which is completely fair and the merc still would be slower this year.

Merc would have been far worse off if he had retired as Lewis has been carrying the majority of the aero testing for the team during the earlier parts of the season and I don't think they would be finishing in 2nd/3rd in the past two races.

People wouldn't have realized how far off Merc's car was if Lewis wasn't still here, and Russell + whoever else were driving for them would be getting blasted. It would probably have been a pretty awful time for those drivers actually, constantly having to tell media etc 'it's not me, it's the car' and no one would believe them. Think it's been best for everyone except Lewis that he's stuck around.

Well, George has outperformed Lewis all year, pretty much. its the car. Williams has the same poor side pods. Brundle said early on it looks awesome, and it does, but its a poor design.

It was confirmed that Lewis had been doing most of the testing and so the car was different from race to race where as George had a more consistent car and was able to get to grips with it better.

Does that say that the car was Lewis biased (which is fair enough) but George did better?

No it meant that Lewis had all the major changes to solve the purpoising and bouncing and they kept changing his set up whereas Georges was more consistent and didnt move from extremes.

If you look at his performances since they've reduced the bouncing / purpoising he has been faster and consistent in the race and has finished ahead of George hence why he is only 12 points behind rather than the large gulf earlier in the season.

Ah, ok, but id rather get a bigger sample. When its not great George is better, if its improved now which certainly seems the case lets see the next few races, a bigger sample. Ive seen too many races where driver A nails it and driver B is all at sea (with the requisite excuses) Then there is the Lewis bias (not me, its a natural team thing)

Tough week for Alpine!

"After four years as part of the Renault and Alpine family, Reserve Driver Oscar Piastri is promoted to a race seat alongside Esteban Ocon starting from 2023."

2hrs later...

"I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year."

https://twitter.com/OscarPiastri/status/1554527452231262210?t=o13F5_lrAtb7Vc3aIC27dg&s=09

Assume there's another team in the mix there, given why would you so completely dismiss a race drive seat in a team that's doing ok (not likes of hASS or Williams where rookie drivers normally head first).

He must have a better offer, McLaren possibly. I assume McLaren has no issues paying out of the Alpine contract. Sergio's seat is another option perhaps, RBR like to lock in the future so the latest young gun over a tiring Perez is an option

Yeah rumours are he is off to Mclaren to replace Ricciardo.  Perhaps Ricciardo will end up back at Alpine (renault)...

To this day I don't know how Merc suddenly stopped bouncing.

I was watching the last race and Merc car has the lowest body it basically hugs the ground and no bouncing

Was the the part the Toto produced the day after the rules were changed that Horner was complaining about
