NZ won by a whisker, but really SA lost it from umpteen dropped catches and missed run outs! The gods are with us!!

The weather favoured us also.  SA were potentially robbed of that last segment where they'd look to ramp things up, but hey, that's the game.

WE dropped catches too, but the kicker was we could not get wickets later on. I was checking TAB odds and at one tome it went from SA marginally favoured to even, then we were 3-50 they were 1-25. So game over. I was impressed that we batted to win, and if we got bowled out from the risks, so be it. Brave and great.

Although, that is taken into account with the higher target to chase. I.e. sa only scored around 250 in the 43 overs, but nz needed to score almost 300 to win.

no way, they scored 281 in 43 overs that's nowhere near 250

umm ... i don't think there was any other way, was there? but the top order didn't do anything different. the middle order did what was needed. glad the bowlers didn't bat. that would be comical.

guptill tried to play solid (ie slow, safe, ramp it up later type of game) but got run out thanks to Ross Taylor. If i were guptill I would have just stood on the crease and let Ross cop the run out.

BC - crazy maniac, but that's how he plays, to try to reduce the run rate required. not sure that's the best idea, i'd prefer a more measured approach.

kane, well, just mistimed it. he was doing pretty well i suppose, to try to carry on where BC left off but he never got a chance to get started thanks to the mis-time.

Ross - where is his form? he had absolutely no rhythm or timing.

Elliott - i remember a commentator questioning he batting abilities. saying he's not a number 5 batsman. not bad for keeping a cool head

Ronchi - i have never seen him bat. can't say. don't think he's a big hitter. he tried but failed, but that was important to get big hits.

Anderson - he can hit alright, reminds me of the banned word - chris cairns

Vettori - he played how it needed. taking all the risks he needed to take to keep the scoreboard ticking, and the final run to get elliot on strike. the gods favoured the runners today.

I thought Pakistan should have beaten Australia had they not dropped Watson on 4, but today it shows even the best of the best can misfire many many times. such is sport!

The picture quality was superior to the delayed All Blacks games they show. Any idea why?

True, but, I've seen so many Black Cap matches that need x runs per over in the latter stages and they defend, defend, defend. Last night they batted to get the runs, so in one way, they WILL get the runs, but will the wickets last? On this day, they did

whoops brain fart.  I was thinking of the score SA had when they came back out to bat for those last few overs.

Probably not, because that was 216, but don't be too hard on yourself. ;)

If they played the full 50 it would have been. I would argue the rain made the toss irrelevant.

But we lost the toss. South Africa decided to bat. The theory I heard was they were chancing their arm on rain and a favourable Duckworth Lewis calculation
