Handsomedan:

Personally, my take on this is the same as Tua vs Lewis.

Barry is the reason for the loss.

At no time was there a sense of urgency - the one time JP made it through and hit Joshua hard, he stood back and looked to see if that hit had worked. Just like when Tua was managed by Barry.

He needs a new corner. A new promoter. A new attitude.

Boxing is a blood-sport and as such requires a certain amount of animalistic rage. There doesn;t appear to be any of that in any fighter that Barry trains. He seems to train it out of them.

JP would look better under a more aggressive trainer.

Hard to disagree with that. JP fought a polite tactical fight. he got sucesss by winning two middle rounds, but he spent too much time playing chess with a boxer who just needs to avoid confrontation and losing all his belts, by holding his 6 inch longer arm otu and jabbing. AJ had a LOT to lose, JP had nothing to lose, his WBO was likely gone before the match. But he didnt dig in and go after him. Maybe should have watched a few Tyson and Frazier matches, they were both short. He will improve. It wasnt the horrendous mis match many felt it was going to be

Should be a good fight. Same height, Whyte has just a 2 inch reach advantage

Parker

Its about redemption. If he just won, his position will drop back, he needs a big win

Power punching has been lacking, he needs to fight

He will take more punishment before he gets jelly legs than Whyte

Parker took 12 round with AJ easily, but then again, they didnt fight, AJ just jabbed to victory as Parker was a risk to go toe to toe

Whyte

Aggressive, that's a help, the big one can happen anytime

Aggressive, thats a problem, he will give Parker opportunities

When he gets hit with a power punch, he is gone

We haven't seen Parker hit properly since 4-5 fights ago, Whyte will throw the kitchen sink at him and he will need to respond. I've been following Whyte for a while now.  Sky UK always get him on to comment on other fighters, he's got a big mouth and loves to talk himself up.

Whyte can hit though and is not afraid to go after his opponent. A bit of arrogance goes a long way in this sport. Parker should beat him if he brings his A game, we just haven't seen it for while.

Agree. Pity AJ had such a reach advantage, so it became a non fight. My feeling is that when Parker gets hit he will weather it, Whyte not so much, and Whyte will expose himself. After Parker's last 4-5 fights, this one is the test where he can show he is at the pointy end of the boxing world, or not. Reach, past elbow issue, past didnt fight smart, etc, needs to be behind him. This is the bigtime

Disappointing big time. We all hoped Parker would compete, but its time to be honest, he is out of his depth. Both these two belong at the bottom of the top 10, stick to undercards. Parker looked good the first round, but he has no boxing brains. He also doesnt have the body. Whyte started to bawl, Parker didn't know what to do, thats poor. So Parker was losing every round, and some judges had them only a couple of points apart after Parker went down twice (one was actually a head clash), and Whyte down once. Whyte was saved by the bell clearly, and if he lost, its still a poor fight from Parker. Be well down and bring your A game with 2 minutes left??  Both were gassed at the end, but better to think and get points where you can. In one round Parker took 8 or 9 unanswered jabs. Thats not boxing.

Disappointing big time ………… That's not boxing.

As the English SKY UK commentators said ….. "He did not want to be there, he looked sorry for himself". Not nice to hear in the 5th round. Time to give up before he hurts himself.

IMO he was lost, not sure what to do. Its no surprise Whyte will brawl. Whyte isnt great technically, so its a lack of planning. Plus Parker is again flabby, and he tired before halfway. He looked good round 1 but it didnt go to plan and they had no plan it seems. He wont hurt himself, he has as good a chin as any, he is a fast as any, but he needs to be better conditioned and be in better condition. Parker is like Ruiz if Ruiz can lose weight, trim but flabby.

He would have a good career is a top 8 to 12. If he fought someone decent on a low tier main event as this was, thats one mill again. Be a good undercard to leadup AJ, a half mill there. Or potter around with the Takams for 200k every 3 months. Plenty to play for but his title shots are history. If he worked on stamina, and his body, he could be a contender in 2-3 years, but he needs a new trainer and manager. Hearns is where he needs to be.

Update. He will never get another title shot, this is why

It's a long way back for Joseph Parker from here, but the Kiwi boxing heavyweight is vowing that his latest defeat will not signal a reconsideration of his future in the sport.

And it will most certainly not cause either him or Las Vegas-based padman Kevin Barry to reassess their fighter-trainer partnership which remains on the firmest of foundations, for all the shaking that's been going on this year.

and

"A dodgy second-round headbutt from Whyte resulted in what the Parker camp believed was an incorrectly called knockdown that likely decided the fight"               RUBBISH. Excuse by Barry, it didnt bother Joe

We've known this for a long time.

All his previous fights that he won he just bounces around the ring and somehow lands a punch here and there and wins, and gets hailed as some hero by the local media.

He showed enough promise to improve on his mistakes, but either he doesnt or his team is rubbish, just orchestrating a big money title shot and nothing else. Hindsight is a wonderful thing

JP's got a lot of talent, a lot of strength and a good chin, but he's been through the standard KB system of being mollycoddled for years and sheltered from hard competition so there's no mongrel in him. I agree with tdgeek - it's essentially game over in terms of a future title shot unless he changes trainer.

Given Barry's past, I hope JP's got someone knowledgeable/trustworthy keeping a close eye on those millions he's earned.

Joshua vs Povetkin

Povetkin is good, but shorter, lighter and less reach. He went the distance with a 4 year younger Klitschko

AJ is overrated

But the rigged marketing will make more money when AJ takes on Wilder, so that's the result

Enjoyed watching Povetkins fight reels in recent years - and his win record is impressive.

I would not be upset if he dropped AJ.

For while AJ is good and he has definitely come up in my estimation in the last year or 2 - I don't believe he is as great as the UK make him out to be.

That said if AJ wins - the Bronze Bomber cant be to far away and I would be dead keen to see that fight :)

Ah well - AJ took care of Povetkin......so hopefully April 2019 we might actually see a unification fight with AJ vs Wilder.
