Found the race direction really weird from a TV point of view. We had one tacking duel all day and they cut to the fan village in the middle of it, and by the time they returned it was all over? Also the sweeping shots around the yachts at a low level destroy any sense of speed and make it really hard to know what the hell is going on or where they were going. Very cinematic, very montage-ish, but entirely useless for adding something to the race coverage.

It's early days. They pretty clearly are still figuring out the coverage. It was very glitchy and will get better. If it's the same at the end of the Prada series get worried, until then I wouldn't be too concerned.

Enjoyed the races.

Was on the ferry home at the start of the first race - pretty spectacular out there amongst it.

TV coverage needs work. I watched both the TVNZ and Youtube coverage on the ferry home. IMO Youtube is better as it has the International commentary, and far fewer ad breaks. The international commentators are good (Ken Read, who commentated the 2017 cup, Nathan Outteridge and Shirley Robinson - all very knowledgeable). The graphics were a bit herky-jerky, but I'm sure they'll fix that.

Don't get me started - I found the TV coverage on One extremely poor. The visuals were stuttering (more than would normally be expected for this type of coverage), the audio regularly cut out (including in post race interviews) or was accidentally mixed with the overseas commentators talking over the top, they missed a good 2-3 minutes of the 2nd race due to going to an advert break then claimed the race started early (which I don't buy at all), and then to top it all off they put someone on the studio panel that clearly knows absolutely zero about yachting, and all he contributed to the conversation was inane questions.

Missing the pre-start and start of the second race is unforgivable - that's one of the most exciting parts. Even if the race officials did decide to start the race early at the very last minute (which I highly doubt), there still would have been a period of notice to allow the yachts to get ready - how could all of the teams and race officials have known but not the broadcasters? They are literally watching the course from the sky. And when they realised, they should have cut straight back to the action rather than letting the ads run their full course.

I'm hoping for a better performance today.

I agree Wheelbarrow - hoping for big improvements today.  Video on some races was very choppy and they had to constantly switch feeds as one or another stopped working.

And then when one boat or another was about do a boundary gybe the video would switch to a zoomed out view of both boats miles apart for no reason - so you couldn't get a good view of the quality of the maneuver.

And the augmented reality I thought was very poor quality when compared to the excellent job the prev cup holders did in the previous two cups.  The lines on the water were jumping around much of the time, and completely misplaced in some wide shots the full length of the course - they showed the top marks well into the spectator fleet.   Hoping that this will get better and is not just a poor technology choice.

My views are my own, and may not necessarily represent those of my employer.

I see UK team trying to blame Team NZ in some way for not sharing information. Surely all teams got the same information. Team USA looked pretty quick, comparable in my opinion to TNZ.

I agree. The studio panel was awful. I'll watch the streamed coverage instead, which even from the 30 seconds I watched this morning, I could tell was vastly superior. You could hear the on water official decisions for a start.

Bring back the sailing boats... much more exciting.

Who are streaming this for free ?

Agree. I preferred the pre 70's F1 to todays F1. More skill and more daring-do. I have heard similar comparisons made concerning the AC20.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I feel like this would be a good time to remind people that the 'sailing boats' in 1995 were minutes apart at the finish line as well in the America's Cup finals.

Today's America's Cup drama has arrived, the son of a Luna Rossa team member has Covid19. Alert just now so unsure what the wider ramifications are yet.

They're MIQd already. But shows the bubble has obviously not as restricted to residents as thought.

The teams are also streaming a feed. Ineos had it on the main page of their site yesterday too. But seems to be a pipe from the AC youtube.

I think TVNZ get the 4 feeds. Minus commentary. So when they cut to the camera or data feeds, they will possibly get the unstripped intl commentary as suggested doubled up.

Or it's a clearer boat-cam mic. Which are hot all the time

I noticed this too. Did they get someone else to do the AR stuff, it used to be top-notch when Ian Taylor's company was doing it.

Same guys.

But it's no longer a pre-set format. It's advanced so they are able to do it realtime overlays. And on the fly via camera recognition rather than direct data. Similar to the fake on field signage etc that is dynamic (and cricket)

Coverage and direction is sus again - cutting away to replays of the start maneuvers and showing us the fan village at inopportune times. Also seemed to take them an age to  get the speeds on the boats in the first race.

Missed the TNZ races, what top speed did each boat hit and what was the difference in distance at the end?
