50:50 odds of regathering and gaining 20 metres is much easier than getting bashed for 10 phases to gain the same distance.

That is probably why rugby IMO has become so boring and predicable in the way it is played. The expansive game there were often breaks on the wing, but very little of that in the semis. IMO, the current game has become very much like rugby league, with advantage played for far too long and often milked by teams.

It is very rare that world cup semis or finals are expansive. There are a few exceptions (usually blowouts) but mostly they are very very tight.

Jerome Garces for World Cup Final. That in itself should provide enough reasons for heart attacks and keep punters on their toes.

I see England have been fined for breach of cultural protocol. I had no issue with the acceptance of the challenge, but I feel crossing the halfway line was slightly "over the line" in my view.

Eddie Jones would have paid that fine twice over and do the same thing again I'd bet. It really unsettled the AB's (and me actually).

But last Saturday they prepared for every eventuality but the simple act of I'm gonna just stand in front of you during the F1 race start really messed them up. And it was that easy. And cheap.

Other teams should create their own pre game ritual if they wish to.

Its totally fine AB's did the war dance, its totally fine the opposition faced up. I recall one game where the opposition turned round and walked away. Given that it carries a cultural meaning, I find that not acceptable

I have an analogy. you want to watch the f1 race start before going to work, you have a very important business deal to close, all your papers arranged in the suitcase.

you have to quickly say goodbye to everyone, you go to work and feel your suitcase is not right.

I have an analogy. you want to watch the f1 race start before going to work, you have a very important business deal to close, all your papers arranged in the suitcase.

just as the f1 race is starting your kids run into the room and stand in front of you, the tv got turned off, and it came back on and the race order is all over the show.

you have to quickly say goodbye to everyone, you go to work and feel your suitcase is not right.

and suddenly your business client shows up.

This is what happened to the ABs. it totally affected them. they were all over the show like each one had a spell cast on them. go watch England Australia. Australia played 10x better than the ABs.

Are you serious? Two ways to look at this.

1. Its psychological warfare. It wasnt fair on AB's its hurtful. It broke us. But we are fine to push this onto every other team we play??? Then the minute another team fires the same stuff back at us we cry? Come on

2. Its culture for NZ rugby teams, its very cool. Other teams have stared us down, stood tall, the French eyeballed us nose to nose. Its all fair. In this particular case ENG did the same, its all fair, and I'd be shocked if it rattled us TBH. If it did, OMG. The ONLY issue is that after France, a rule was created for halfway

If you really wanted to annoy the AB's before a game, create your own ritual to dilute the haka. Alls fair surely?

It is. The refs tried to put them back and England ignored the officials. I'd be giving them the fine for that - comparable to going OTT when celebrating after scoring a goal in soccer gets you a yellow.

The message it sent was clear, however: We're England, the rules don't apply to us and we don't have to listen to match officials. I think seeing them get away with it probably sent more of a message than whatever they thought their flying-v would.

LOL ok, cant really see your point. But you did mention that mind games win. They can do, but I doubt that here, but in any case if its ok for AB's to play a mind game, its ok for anyone else as well? This its 1-1, even, no issue, no foul

I know the rule. I'm not a professional rugby player. When you're specifically responding to the Haka in a way you've hyped beforehand, you've looked at the rules. And if they didn't I'm not sure it doesn't really take anything away from my point, because it shows they thought they could do what they liked.

E: Other nations do hakas, other countries manage to not be dicks in response.

I know the rule. I'm not a professional rugby player. When you're specifically responding to the Haka in a way you've hyped beforehand, you've looked at the rules. And if they didn't I'm not sure it doesn't really take anything away from my point, because it shows they thought they could do what they liked.

E: Other nations do hakas, other countries manage to not be dicks in response.

England were dicks for providing a response? Just playing the game. They could have walked up and nose to nosed them and got a fine, they could have turned their back as I think RSA and one of them had some kicking practice during the haka. Could have chosen some of those that have already happened. Or they could meet the challenge with the V, after all thats actually the expected response. Who cares if they went over the line, whether on purpose or not? People dont seem to care if the haka uses the throat slit. Its all spice, for the big occasion of an All Blacks rugby match.
