Both Ferrari drivers were upset about poorly executed strategy, chiefly how long it took, then it was too late. Vasseur said it was executed very well....

Yeah different cars will be in different windows and should be maximised when possible.
By the time they get around to switching that situation has changed.
Painful to watch that, but at least it wasn't McLaren doing it this time with their stupid Papaya rules vibe.

Oakes gone at Alpine, Briatore to take over the TP role in the interim and continue to destroy the team from within. It seems like Doohan has already been told he is toast also, might account for his anger on the radio over the weekend when he is generally known to be a pretty easy-going young man.

Oakes has clearly become fed up with being the organ-grinder's monkey at Alpine, and having to be the face of decisions he doesn't agree with. He's got his Hitech team to fall back on so I don't imagine he will see it as a great loss to be walking away from the Alpine circus.

Will be interesting to see how the Colapinto experiment now goes. I thought his driving abilities were found out by the end of last season and that there is a fair bit of unjustified hype surrounding a couple of good outings and a fair few average or mediocre ones. Still, it seems like Briatore sees the Argentine more as a cash-cow for the team than an actual racing prospect. One to join Stroll and Tsunoda as pay drivers on the grid.

Yep.

I actually rate Lance. Under pressure to perform as he is a nepitist seat. Under pressure as his teammate is Alonso. I feel Lawrence should let him go for these reasons, PR speak to let him grow on his own without these pressures. At least that allows a path to improve if he can

Doohan is gone.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/360681623/alpine-replace-jack-doohan-formula-1-after-collision-liam-lawson-miami

Formula 1 team Alpine has changed their driver line-up to promote Franco Colapinto for at least the next five Grand Prix races at the expense of Jack Doohan.

Alpine confirmed the change Wednesday (Thursday NZ time), a day after Oliver Oakes quit as team principal. The team said Flavio Briatore will continue as executive advisor and will cover Oakes’ duties.

“Colapinto will be paired with Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, ahead of a new evaluation before the British Grand Prix in July,” Alpine said in a statement.

he's not gone gone, the official line is they are giving Colapinto 5 races, then decide who will drive after that.

Wonderful, it's become "F1 Driver Survivor" over at Alpine now. They can use a maximum of 4 drivers per year, not sure if that includes the FP1 slot Ryo Hirakawa has already expended before his move to Haas. Best case, they get one more chance at another driver in a seat, Paul Aron maybe.

The South American fans have been absolutely vile to Doohan and those near to him, total lack of class from that part of the world when you consider the abuse Lawson has also endured from the Mexican "fans". Those nations need to grow up a bit, just no call for the constant petulance when their own supposed gifts to motor-racing don't get their own way.

I've never really understood the absolute filth that gets thrown at these drivers when they don't control whether they take over a driver's spot or not - surely all the vitriol (if it's even necessary) should be aimed at the team bosses who make these decisions and are so cut-throat.
To be fair, F1 is not the only sport in which South American fans behave poorly.

Weird when you think how lovely and hospitable they generally are all across the continent (gross generalisations abound here, obviously).

Teams at this level should absolutely be PR coaching new staff and talent.
It’s such a risky environment to be dropping into and quite foreign compared to the the limited exposure the lower grades get before the exposure spotlight of F1.

Just to note, Oakes' leaving Alpine seems like it may be a big timing coincidence based on the latest reports. His brother (co-director of Hitech) was arrested last weekend.

I often find it interesting when teams blame drivers for not being able to maximise the performance of the cars (that is effective the drivers job when on track), when the actual performance is set by the designers back in the factory.

i do find it interesting where some teams are set up for front end bias on tight tracks, vs those with even bias on faster tracks. I think this is really the only difference between the cars at the moment.

Great racing IQ by Piastri in Miami, something Lawson and Lando are lacking at the moment

I think we may see a bit of this in 2025 given the 2026 changes.
