Quite a session

Carlos is really getting on top of the Williams

Aston Martin's upgrade has worked

Hadjar keeps growing

Max was awesome as usual

Piastri was fast and Iceman 2.0 as usual

I think Yuki will be out next race. Not because of his crash (although pressure to drive faster than his skill level may have been a cause) Hadjar does show the odd wow moment, he seems to have a little bit of X factor. Yuki is going nowhere.Yes he was close in one of the FP sessions, but they hadn't sorted the car, when they did he was well off again. Hadjar taking the seat is a zero risk

Lando is unfortunately crumbling under pressure.

I recall Lando coming back strong last year after the break. Got his head sorted and came back and dominated.
He’s got the speed but is lacking the racer instinct. This really should be his year but unless he sorts it soon he will be too far behind to recover, especially if another team does step up and start stealing the big win points away.

I think Tsunoda is secure until the end of the year, he's got 20 000 000 reasons to feel his seat is safe for that length of time. His problem will be 2026 if Hadjar continues on his merry way in 2025 and makes a jump to the top team inevitable. With Red Bull juniors Marti (P3) and Lindblad (P7) currently in F2, they may be looking to bring one or both up to F1 next season. Perhaps Lindblad might be required to start next season in F2 as he's still young, but the British-centric press seem to think he's preferred to the more experienced and better-performed (so far) Marti. In which case Lawson and probably Tsunoda are surplus to requirements.

Which brings me to Lawson. This weekend is following the usual trend for him, he was ahead of Hadjar after FP1 by 0.355 in clocking a time of 1:17.286 to the Frenchman's 1:17.641. However, Hadjar goes to work and finds lap time as he normally does until we end up with him ahead of Lawson by 0.869, clocking a best one-lap time in qualifying of 1:15.510 to the Kiwi's 1:16.379. The improvement for Hadjar over the four sessions was 2.131 seconds while Lawson's improvement was only 0.907 seconds.

Really does not look good for Lawson at this rate. He's had extenuating circumstances at times to be sure, but Liam just doesn't seem to be able to dial the car in each weekend and make the necessary gains. However, the longer the weekend goes each time for Hadjar, the more impressive he gets. If Isack can find over two seconds of improvement in the same machinery that Liam can only extract less than a second of lap time, then the latter is on shaky ground.

Lawson's saving grace might be the desire to let both Marti and Lindblad complete their full F2 seasons, which don't conclude until December. Can't see how he will score points tonight without a lot of assistance from other driver's misfortune.

Another race impacted by safety cars and the resulting pit stop lottery.

While it adds uncertainty and a big element of luck, I'd prefer to see the benefit of changing tyres under safety car mitigated. Not a return to the days of closing the pit lane, but perhaps something like this: if there is a full or virtual safety car in effect when a car enters the pit lane, and still in effect when the car comes to a stop, the crew must wait 10 seconds before touching it. That would negate the benefit at most circuits.

I'm glad that was the last race at Imola for the foreseeable future. Its quite a dangerous track and has VERY limited opps for overtaking.

Pretty boring race overall, Max lucky with pitting under SC's and good pace with clear air.

One takeaway from me is that Max may well still be in the championship fight this year.
McLaren look set to take the constructors again but they potentially will have the problem of sharing points between two drivers, whereas there is never that issue at Red Bull.

Williams looking good, and so are Aston Martin - especially keen to see how they do in 2026 given all their buildup investment and development.

Lawson is showing impressive consistency...

Lawson looking very average today, Max got lucky with the VSC pretty aggressive pass into turn 1 off the start. But guess that's why he is there.

Max has scored 124 of Redbull 131 points. Yuki looks as average as Liam did in the Redbull.

You have to wonder if next years car will favor both drivers as they know this strategy of Max doing the heavy lifting isn't going to work out. Liam and Yuki will be thrown under the bus and suspect Hadjar will step up. Yuki will get the Honda lifeline somewhere and Liam will be out on his ass.

By and large Imola was pretty boring. if it wasn't for the Haas and Merc stopping on track would have probably fallen asleep.

I thought the race was a sound watch. Stoppages helped but there was still a bit going on. Tyres that are too soft to last helped a lot

Hoping that RBR has sorted their car, some doubts on that, but if so, a genuine 3 driver fight for the rest of the season

If Liam Lawson doesn't pick up points in the next race or two - and improve overall - where do we think he's going to end up? F2? Formula E? Indycars?

Or will he move from open-wheel racing and try his hand at something else, like Touring Cars, Le Mans, Nascar?

Red Bull sounds like they've unlocked a wider working setup window.

Lawson, honestly think he'd do better in a push and shove series like nascar or V8 supercars.
Open wheeled (which he's done a lot of) just seems too risky at the top level, where they hail mary type crazy passes which may have worked in the past just ruin races now.

I think both Tsunoda & Lawson will stay where they are for the rest of this season, for two reasons: firstly an F1 team can only use four drivers in a season, and both Red Bulls and Rcing Bulls are on their third a.t.m., so another change would paint them into a bit of a corner; secondly replacing either of them would involve both Horner and Marko admitting - at least tacitly - that they've made a big mistake.
Of course if there's a major blowup within the Red Bulls F1 organisation as has been rumoured from time to time since 2024, well, all bets would be off.

For 2026 ... it depends on how they both perform, whether Max goes or stays (I think he'll stay), how the relationship between Horner, Marko & Jos Verstappen goes, a bunch of unknowns. I don't think we'll really know until September or October

I think Max will stay in 2026 and leave for Aston if Red Bull are not on the money that first season of new regs.
