Ah well - AJ took care of Povetkin......so hopefully April 2019 we might actually see a unification fight with AJ vs Wilder.

Hopefully. I dont rate AJ. Its a bit like Rugby at the moment, everyone is average, so the No.1 may just be the best of an average lot. I weigh up his fights against Parker and Takam as not great. I feel if he met someone like Povetkin who had a similar reach, it would be a proper fight. Off course AJ is good, but his 82" reach is massive. IMHO if he met any one of past big names, he would be hammered

Talk of Parker vs Whyte, and of vs Bellew, those would be good

Im tempted to watch tomorrows fight, am I a sucker?? Probably

He is in good nick, not flabby. He HAS to win bigly. (TM D. Trump)   Junior Fa is on the card. The PPV is the same as tickets, ironically I'm 5 minutes drive to Horncastle Arena

IF Parker was ripped, and he is better now, IF he got some brute, and IF he can get a rematch with Whyte, he has a path back to the big time. And it would be a while, so time to prove his worth, plus get a better trainer. While his stats and losses are world class, many recent fights arent.

Well, yeah. His stocks have declined again. An early KO win but pretty average.

He came out aggressive as everyone knew, lots of great shots, most of which missed. He seems to throw punches and hope still. 3 low blows, 2 seen by ref. The first low blow followed by a good punch that landed, ref saw it, Flores not hurt, Parker apologises. Another low blow, ref didn't see it.Third low blow, followed by a rocking punch to the head. Flores is on is knees, looked at ref, pointed downstairs, not hurt. Parker later got some good hits in, Flores is down, but hit his head on the corner of the ring so it looked worse than what it was. If there were no blows, Parker will win as he is a better boxer, but if any of the big names were watching, nothing to see here.

Last Parker PPV from me, and despite his aggression, unimpressive. What p!ssed me off, was when he was asked about the low blows, he pretty much said, Im here to fight, I think there was one. So, he now has the mongrel, but he doesn't, its not in him. He is too nice, always will be. And his punching power isn't high at all.

Overall enjoyed the PPV, Andrei Michaelivitch a 21yo based in AKL looked great, Junior Fa looked awesome, didnt know Manu Vatuvei was on, he looked good, so a good night

Dunno about his stocks declining....if he lost, sure.

He needed to be aggressive - he needed an early knock out - he did both.

He is still a world class fighter:

He is still clearly a work in progress and I do wonder if he will get back to a title fight - but as a fan, I sure hope he does.

I am a fan as well, but we need to get realistic. He never won a title, him and Ruiz fought for a vacant one, Ruiz, is low ranked now, and that result was controversial. Parker cant knock anyone out now, apart from a 179 ranked Mexican, who he low blowed three times, two of these just prior to a knockdown. The first one was a good shot, didnt faze Flores. Yes, he got a knockout, but we need to be talking top 15 to have any cred. His sole talent is taking a punch but you don't win that way.

Yeah - hard to disagree with much of what you wrote...

If JP could find a path back to Whyte.... and win....then yeah he would be back in the frame - but Whyte is looking upwards .... and I am not sure the other top 10 guys would be looking too hard at JP anytime soon either.

PS: Hopefully he has been wise with his AJ purse.

As far as I know, AJ will fight Wilder in April. Whyte fights Chisora on 22 Dec, easy win. Parker needs to fight Chisora for a KO. Parkers ranking is due to WBO, losing to Joshua in a decision doesnt hurt. Whyte hurts a bit BUT the issue is Parkers lack of aggression and KO's. He can have a nice career in undercards or non top tier bouts as Takam does. He needs to go all out and beat them, if not he has a career as a top 15, and thats not bad at all.  If he blew Chisora, Takam away, the money men get interested.

I think that's a different kind of Pay Per View, to be honest.

I hate to see any match marred by controversy.  If you're trying to send a message, and the fight is your brand advertising, then low blowing a guy (3 times?!) isn't helping your prospects and doesn't convey that you're worthy.  Bringing back the mongrel doesn't need to mean cheating, and 'Low Blow Jo' doesn't have a good ring to it.

I agree with you - I don't think this fight has done his profile any real favours internationally.

Yeah, he's won by KO, but against a relative chump, with controversial tactics.

He has a long road ahead of him to get back to being worthy of a proper title fight.

Not quite following you, but what I meant is unless he can be a drawcard, he isnt playing in the same league. Chisora is marginal, and he's on the way down, but he is still ranked pretty well. A better win than Whyte will get this week will make him a player, it will keep the big fight door ajar, no more than ajar though

AJ vs Ruiz, anyone watching?

I rate Ruiz. He will go forward, he will trade punches, he's never been down. AJ clearly ranks higher, but he wins matches he doesn't show the x factor. He looks good against an easy beat, ho looked careful and not prepared to fight Parker. Ruiz beats Parker every day. I hope it goes a long way as AJ has been rocked more than once. Whyte had him close. I dint feel he could take a similar hit from Ruiz, as Ruiz will keep punching, reducing the recovery period.

US judges???

Ruiz has only lost to Parker, he has 32 wins under his belt. Don't expect him to win but probably deserves a shot and it wouldn't be the first time an underdog has walked away with it.   Its bucketing down here in Christchurch, so cant think of a better use of my time than to watch 2 heavy weights slugging it out.

Yep, upsets happen. Tyson and Ali, and etc. Ruiz is tough and rugged, AJ is smart and accurate, but I dont see him taking a big shot and getting past it, if a big shot happened. Whyte had him, but didn't go on. That fight shows AJ can be rocked. Lets face it, AJ is not in the same league as many greats. Holyfield past his best would hammer him. He would be on the undercard in the Ali, Frazier, Foreman days, and he would never break though.

Given AJ was scared of Parker, as in getting a lucky power punch in, he will be scared of mixing it with Ruiz. It takes one punch. AJ doesnt want that risk. That could mean that stamina wins if it goes long. But AJ wont be able to keep away from Ruiz as he did with Parker. I just hope its not decided by 123 jabs.

Who is judging? US and Brit ref and someone else?

ChCh here too, Halswell, steady rain on and off now, its a bit bright out.
